Hate the whole renting with pets thing. I have signed my life away to finally buy a house - which will be built this year - though I am already stressing big time that I won't be able to pay the mortgage now. First thing I'll do after I move in is install a doggy door, get another foster cat - or two - and explore the option of fostering a dog too. Haha!

Could you maybe just try to keep quiet about the exact number of cats? I hate not being totally honest, but I ended up being homeless for 6 weeks once because I couldn't find a suitable rental. I actually rehomed my cat because of it. Sorry, that's not helpful to you at all!

I hope you will find a reasonable landlord who loves pets! It may also be worth insisting that the agent double check with the owner about the pets policy? Some RE agents just try to make it easier on themselves by having a blanket 'no pets' rule when that may not necessarily be the owner's wishes.

And I also hope that one day you will be able to buy a house of your own and have as many pets as you bloody well want!

    Good luck!

    Congrats Beloz!

U would keep it hush about the number of cats too. Hope you can find somewhere! If not you could always go out of town to acreage - that way you will have more luck finding something!

Oh Beloz that sounds like an dream! I would love to buy me an acreage property, where my animals are able to roam free and i could go ahead and grab a few shelter animals on death row and foster them... and i could go on and on but right now it's just not affordable PLUS i am studying to get into the police force and when i'm finally accepted they can send me anywhere THEY want in QLD for the next three years which means buying a home right now would be silly.

I have definitely thought about lying about the amount of cat's, but i have come to the conclusion that i will leave one of the cat's with my mum (breaks my heart but i know she will take good care of him and i will be able to see him whenever!) We don't have to leave, and our current landlord is a huge animal lover but she is also my mum's boss ( they have had lots of problems as she hasn't been paying my mum's super & she still hasn't got her tax cert back yet!) mum has reported her and handed in her resignation. Since all this has been going on our rent has been put up $100 bucks and all of a sudden we have to pay for water consumption (we are under no contract, we kinda needed a place sorted before moving from NZ and she needed a tenant) So i feel it would be better to move and get out from underneath her thumb.

I have written Resume's for each of our animals, attached with vaccination records, Molly's obedience certificates, a reference from our vet and groomer (for Molly), proof of micro-chip and registration, contact reference of our previous landlord (in NZ - cat's only) and fingers crossed, hoping for a reference from our current landlord.

Jadielee, we are currently looking for an acreage rental property but don't want to go out too far as we are already travelling a distance to work as it is (Murrarie) there isn't any hurry so i'm going to take my time and because i allow my cat's outside it has to be somewhere that isn't close to a main road preferably a no exit st.

All I could afford to buy was a tiny two bedroom place in a new suburb and only because the deposit was on the land only and gifted to my daughter (who is now richer than I am!). But we will have to seriously tighten our belts and it's scary as. And I will be living way further from the city centre than I have ever been. But hey, we will have a doggy door!

It sounds as if there isn't a real urgency to move yet, which hopefully gives you enough time to find the right place with the right landlords.

    You will find somewhere.....

We moved from NZ to Sydney and got a place pretty quickly. Then when we moved from Sydney to Brisbane, we got our house before we even got here (2 dogs). Never met the landlord and didnt view the house either. I had one conversation with the LL and the rest was all done via email...didnt even meet him til a week after we moved in.

We were initially looking for an acreage too but as we couldnt be flying up for inspections every 5 mins we just went on gumtree and found a private rental...we have hit it really lucky and got a nice house in a nice area with a pool and everything.

Our LLs are fantastic too and ae always praising how well behaved our dogs are (they have spent most of the first 3 months here renovating th eback yard)

We didnt have any pet references...our LL just rang the one in Sydney who gave us a glowing ref apparently but they didnt even talk about the dogs. I did send photos of the dogs though with my app form (and I made sure th ephotos wer eones where the dogs looked really lazy lol)

Anyway , my point is, they are out there and if you have references then you will be fine. My only advice would be to try and go private...renting through an agent sucks.

Where in NZ ae you from?

Beloz your story sounds far too familiar...

A couple of years back we were screwed over by a landlord just beore Christmas... Long story short we swore lack and blue it would never happen again and we scraped together, including grovelling to in laws for extra funds - which was unpleasant to say the least! - and we bought a place. The house is tiny, and we have four kids. But we all fit in (just!), kids and dogs have their own space, and we can never be stuffed around like that again because it's ours. Phew!! Crappy bits, and outstanding renos that I can't afford just now I can certainly live wth!

I hate renting with a passion. Living on somone else's whim is really tough sometimes.

I think you're doing all the right things so far Kuri 89, I hope you find somewhere good!

I second the private LL option. That's how I finally found my last rental and they've been pretty good too.

Lala, i am from Te Kuiti a small rural town in waikato, north island (about an hour from Hamilton) and i am definitely missing the country air

I have been having a look at gumtree and would like to go private as i agree - agency's suck i am definitely going to take my time with this, no point going from was shitty landlord to another and it isn't fair dragging the animals around with me. Reluctant to have to give my cat away and i think the OH hates the idea even more than i do, even if it only is to my mum so i might try telling the truth first and see how i go. Thanks for the support it's so stressful not knowing if i can keep all my babies together! If worse comes to worse can always stay put, but $500 a week for a house in marsden is just bloody ridiculous!
