I'm not sure where i stand with the rental increase as i have no contract, or lease with my current landlord, this was all done privately as i said she is just doing this out of spite and i would rather just get the hell out of there. a one hundred dollar increase is seriously ridiculous!

Yep, pretty sure the rental increase rule only applies if you have a lease contract. Tenancy laws in Australia are a joke... In Belgium where I grew up, tenants have heaps more rights. There are people out there who rent the same place their whole lives too! Landlords just don't go selling their houses every few years like lots seem to like doing here. And no house inspections there! And... they can't even ask you if you have pets when you apply for a rental!!!

Must be a NSW thing..we have the same here..

I hope you can find some accommodation. $500/week sounds a huge amount, sure you cannot afford to buy?

500! my god that's outrageous for Marsden! I was paying a share of 460 in inner city Melbourne just a few years ago for a normal house block in Richmond a decent stones throw away from the MCG, surrounded by tiny tiny workers cottages paying the sameish. It was a million dollar dump of a property lol. Literally.

I hope you can find a decent place.

Reyzor - loved georgie pie, and yes your correct Hamz was the closest place to get it! Would be great if you could get those recipies off your father and re-opend
Newfsie - pretty sure i can't afford to buy at the time being, maybe if i was to find a rent to buy i could, and it also won't fit in with my current career pathway
Beau - i have a friend who lives and owns homes in Moranbah, QLD. She say's because rental properties are unable to keep up with the amount of people moving to the town due to mining, she charges nearly $1000 a week in rent! and they're all willing to pay for it if it means they're no longer sleeping in a tent/caravan. & from what i hear, that place is a dump too!

Anyway we are looking to move at the end of January, after my brothers visiting from NZ return home for school. I've been using the website Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au as they have a "pet friendly" option which makes things easier, and there are quite a few homes out there allowing animals... for me it just comes down to how many animals. lol

I would even go for houses that dont specify, or even say no.

Sometimes if they really like you they will go for you and let you have the animals, i.e this house was not specified whether pets were ok or not.

I would also check domain.com.au - though that will have many of the same houses as realestate.com

Also, and this is my personal fave, check gumtree....heaps of rentals and a lot of them are private landlords. IMO you will find it easier to go private because you will get to meet the landlord instead of an agent....that way, the landlord will base the decision of pets on you personally as opposed to a bunch of tenants he hasnt met and is reading about on paper.

we are currently in the process of unpacking into our new house at the moment.....we rent and have 3 dogs and a feisty lorikeet lol. Dog may strike me down for it but I have pretended at this house and the last one that we only have two dogs and have found an awesome doggy daycare we can ship the third dog off to if we have inspections etc....I didn't even bother telling them I had a bird....being a dog person and getting the bird by default I don't consider her to be a pet they need to know about lol (in saying this she is not a 2nd rate member of our family don't anyone worry! lol) Leaving the last house has been a night mare with the real estate whinging the place stinks like dog and making us get a $200 insect infestation man in too spray the joint.... Finding a place wasn't TOO bad but it wasn't fun either.... but we now rent for $100 a week cheaper than we were. So yeah my advice is, minimise the amount of animals you have on paper...LOL. Just don't tell the animal you have made to 'redundant' on paper LOL. Some food for thought which made us move to somewhere cheaper...last financial year we paid $26000 in rent..... :-( I almost cried when i saw that.... I cannot wait to save up to get my own place....anything has to be better than being held to ransom by landlords and RE's. Funnily enough after we moved I ran into a friend who's son actually rented the house we are now in....she reckons the landlord wouldn't let them have their dog so they gave it away.....and when we moved in the real estate told us to be careful with the dogs as the land lord is very "thingy" about them..... so im thinking if the landlord is that thingy about them,a and apparently made the other people get rid of their dog why has he let us have ours?? Who knows who or what to believe but good luck with your search and just though I would share my story!!
Help Alvin and Barkly Save dogs from death row :-) Please take a moment to go and vote for them here http://www.pawclub.com.au/Promotions...ote.aspx?id=14 So they can win and donate some much needed funds to Big Dog Rescue. THANKS AND WOOF!!
