I've never done private but it sounds much better too! Lol we were pretty lucky with our house, it was one of the cheapest in our suburb. But it's on an acre and a quarter and the only reno's that need to be done is a repaint and the floors! Everything else I want done cause I am a picky pain in the ass! Lol

It good that there is no rush though Kuri! Definelty take your time and find the right place!

I have been having a look at gumtree and would like to go private as i agree - agency's suck i am definitely going to take my time with this, no point going from was shitty landlord to another and it isn't fair dragging the animals around with me. Reluctant to have to give my cat away and i think the OH hates the idea even more than i do, even if it only is to my mum so i might try telling the truth first and see how i go. Thanks for the support it's so stressful not knowing if i can keep all my babies together! If worse comes to worse can always stay put, but $500 a week for a house in marsden is just bloody ridiculous!
Wow, $500 a week?! You are definitely getting ripped off there. I'm out near jimboomba and you can get land and a nice house for that!!!

LOL I know where Te Kuiti is...I used to go to Te Awamutu quite a bit to visit my friend and its not far from there.

You will be fine....and I agree $500 a week is ridiculous. We live in Kenmore and have a pool and have a large section (maybe 1000sqm - not an acreage but big) and pay $430....

i know i'm getting ripped off! hence the move lol i thought $400 was hefty but since i was still in NZ and needed a place before i moved over so i could bring my cats... so i jumped at the chance. In all fairness it's a beautiful house though but still... it's in Marsden. Lol Would love to do the whole rent to buy thing, but as i said the police force can send me anywhere they like so probably not a good idea to be paying a mortgage on one house and paying rent on another.... & ideally i would be buying a house because i want to be living in it, not somebody else! so will have to wait a few more years... sigh...

Lala - what a small world! Lol We use to go to Te Awamutu a bit too - for McDonalds lol since that was the closest place to get it!

    There isn't police accommodation?

My son has to have his caged Lorikeet outside where he is moving to in Gympie.
It will be in at night though.

30 years ago it was much better trying to rent with pets. I would hate to be trying to today.

Unless you are sent to an isolated town such as Mt Isa where housing is a problem then no there is no supplied accommodation. Housing is up to you to find yourself.

When I was with my ex we rented through and agency and it was like pulling teeth trying to get any maintenance work done. They whinged about everything and I had to stop fostering.
Now that I am single I am living with my parents but they are building a house with a little 1x1 granny flat out the back that I will be renting from them. We move in in April and they have already given me the go ahead to build a run off "my house" for my dog and cat and are allowing me to go back to fostering for the local rescue.
Hope everything works out for you Kuri!
Owning a dog should be a partnership. Much like a good marriage it should be based on love, trust and devotion until death do you part.

If u feel your rent is a rip off and u have some sort of agreement / lease to say how long u have left ( don't want to get yourself kicked out) you can contact the rental tribunal or something. My friend was in a house for a year and they increase the rent to $350 and the place was a dump. They contacted the tribunal they came and viewed the property and decided that it was worth $250 and they only had to pay that amount until they moved out 12 months later when lease ended. But it goes the other way too. If they say the house is worth more than your paying they can make u pay that too.

Best thing I did was buy a house. Now I have 3 dogs and Tessa doesn't have to hide during inspections. Lol

With the rental increase too, isnt there a limit on how much they can increase the rent? For example they can only increase it by a certain percentage of the current rent...
