I dont know much about the Hendra virus apart from the fact a number of horses have died from it.

    What is the fatality rate?

I can understand your fear and worry. You might be quite right to keep him away from other horses. But flying foxes also seem to be part of the problem. Boredom is really not a very big problem. We play ground skills and riding arena games with our horses. We also hang 4 litre plastic bottles off ropes from a tree and some soft ropes to play with for one horse which had an injury and had to stay quiet for months.
I hope things settle down up there. We are lucky here in the cold South

I thought it was only in QLD at the moment??

    Are other states now affected?
