Hey, Britt... I was in a similar position to you a few years ago. I bought my horse from a rescue group in 2006 dirt cheap, and trained him up (was an OTTB) myself. He had a ton of potential, but I had no interest in showing. Mid 2008 I got landed with Carl (I was talked into adopting him since no one can handle him, fear aggression, etc etc). I'd also moved my horse to somewhere an hour away so eventually it got to a point where I had to choose between my horse and Carl. Duke's potential was being wasted away in a paddock, and everyone knew it. My passion is training and rehabilitating abused dogs, and I spent all my free time doing that with Carl and had no time leftover. So although Duke was the reason for a lot of good in my life, I had to let him go for both our sakes. He was my first absolute love and choosing between them was like deciding whether I'd rather amputate my leg or my arm, but it had to be done. You are right, it isn't fair.

I do think of him a lot but I know he's happy where he is now. I haven't seen him since Jan 2009 and I wish I could, but it'd make me regret it. So perhaps selling him is for the best. Leasing is easier to control what's happening to the horse; you can always have them under contract so you can take the horse back at any point. My only advice is to follow your gut.

Some might have heard be casually mention me owning a Quarter Horse, as well as my main man Wiley the TB.
Lulu the QH was adopted by me when her owners ran out of time for her. She was incredibly overweight, and although I didn't have the time for her as well as Wiley, I took her on.
I knew she was being wasted, cause she was a such a gorgeous girl. I leased her out for only 2 weeks before I relised how much this family loved her. Those two weeks made me feel so much happier and confident about the situation.

As for showing, are you wanting to breed Lacey?

Oh no, not Lacey. She's unreg, unfortunately. I'll be purchasing a papillon pup to show

Grr, my guts telling me it's time to move Romeo on

I thought you got Lacey from a breeder? Do you mean she's on the limited register?

Nah, Lacey was a surprise from mum, she's unreg. I didn't get to choose where she came from.

Britt has picked a lovely kennel for her next dog, they have more imports and Champions than you can poke a stick at

My mum has a horse years ago, an ex-pacer. By the time I was old enough to ride him he was too old to be ridden.
He lived the life of luxury in an agistment with all the mod cons but he didn't really get the time he deserved. If he were younger they probably would have been met with the same decision and I think mum would have sold him so he could be with someone who could spend more time with him.
    Just my 2 cents.
