Smile So Where Did You Grow Up!?

    Hi All!!

Now this is a thread just so everyone can talk about their hometown and where they grew up! Who knows, long lost buddies or neighbours might find themselves on here!!

Ok, well I grew up in St Clair. For those of you who don't know where that is, it's about 15 minutes South West of Penrith, NSW! I went to Banks Public School, and made friends with a girl, Nicole, whom I am still best friends with today! Then Mum didn't want me going to the public high school because of it's bad reputation, so she sent me to Emmaus Catholic College. We aren't even Catholic but there you go. I went there for a year and made 2 great friends, Sarah and Renee. Then one day mum told me we were moving to the Blue Mountains. I was upset because I didn't want to leave the 3 best friends I had ever had! Once we moved, we started renting a place in Faulconbridge whilst building a house in Valley Heights. Mum was tossing up between sending me to Winmalee High or Springwood High. I managed to convince her to send me to Springwood High I started there after the Easter Holidays and I couldn't have been more nervous. I was tiny as well! Not sure how tall, but this might give you a better idea, I was 12 years old and I weighed 33kg's!

Whilst sitting outside the office, these two girls ran past screaming and laughing and I thought to myself .. 'oh god .. this place has freaks'. And they ended up being the girls who showed me around the school, and I have been friends with them ever since! When I was 15 we moved into the house we finally finished building at Valley Heights! It was a 3 tri-level, wooden house and I loved it! Then not long after that, we started building in Woodford. At this stage I was going insane from all the packing and unpacking

Then, after I finished my HSC we moved into the house at Woodford. This house was better for me, because being a Grade A Klutz, there were no stairs for me to fall down or up! It's been almost 3 years since we moved in there, and thank goodness, we aren't planning on building again for a long time!! Oh, and I am still friends with Nicole, Sarah and Renee, and we still catch up, despite the distance

Hi Ally... this was a good idea.

I was born in Townsville Nth Qld. My father is an artist (painter) and traveled a lot to find new market for his art. So I lived in many different towns growing up (all states besides Tasmania at some point) but we spent most of our time in Qld with a few years in NSW and SA as well. Some of the places we lived include... Cairns, Rockhampton, Gympie, Brisbane, Sydney (Parklea, Prospect, Blacktown...), Darwin, Mannum (near Adelaide), Wowan (Qld), Palmwoods, Genelda and many more. I enjoyed moving but leaving behind friends was always hard. I love the internet and sites like facebook as it has enabled me to contact menay people that I have not seen in many years. I have lived in the one town (Mackay) now for 8 years tho and am happy to own my own home and raise a family in a little more 'settled' environment!

    Thanks Ally!!

I grew up in the Blue Mountains, lived in Wentworth Falls until I was 11, then Katoomba for about 5 years, then Wenty Falls again. I went to Wentworth Falls public school, where we learned how to sing songs about and make fun of the local Catholic school kids - "The Canopeners" (or St Canices kids if you want to be technical) - at all our swimming and sports carnivals. Take that Choppa...

Then Katoomba high school which was huge and pretty feral but we loved it anyway! I remember sneaking up to a bush garden in the front yard to have a cigarette (it was snowing - how desperate were we??) and the teachers drove around in their car to shout at us, too cold to walk!!

I left when I finished school and went to Port Macquarie for a few years where I met my OH and we started our family. But I always missed the mountains, and having family there meant I could go and stay every now and then. We lived up there for a little while and I used to take my Afghan boy to obedience classes there in Lawson and Blackheath (never believe anyone that says sighthounds can't do obedience, he was fantastic at it!).

And then I ended up in the Southern Tablelands near Canberra where I've been for about 10 years... yowch, am I getting old or what!

    Yes! Thanks Ally !

    Firstly though.....Natty poppet...come here dear.
Just a wee bit closer...thats the way...little to the left if you would be so kind for me dear .
    Many thanks possum.

You know, that out of the way,I got a wee bit goose bumply ( could be time to cue twilight music or could be just that I'm running a yukky temp - not sure yet) ....

I was born in Camden, not far from Campbelltown Nsw.
Spent the first few years of scchool there at yet another catholic school , St Pauls . Older brothers were in Camden High.
Dad was in the mines ( whole family were miners in fact) so when Brimmy 2 closed down he went upto Clarence and we went upto Blackheath .
Camden seems always so minor to me now....I did not mind leaving much at all and only seem to fondly claim the Mountains as 'home' .

Anyways , after St Canices I went onto Katoomba High , everything that Natty said about it I agree with lol Only we would sneak down to the back oval for our ciggy ( even ducked across the road onto one of the local bush walks if you were really brave) And used to wag a day here and there down at Echo Point

After leaving there and doing some feral years( include first husband in that and I hadn't gone far, only to Hampton) I too ended up in Port Macquarie ( ok - cue twilight music)with my second hubby who I met in Wang ( Wallarawang, outside a place called Lithgow that truely should be dammed at each end and filled with water) . I loved Port too but it still wasn't 'home' .
So we ended up back in Mt Victoria for a wee while and eventually to Orange for hubbies Mum who at the time was oh so sick ( dont even start me on inlaws) we only went for a 'little while ' over xmas...mmmmfast forward 3 odd years and I'd had it.

So we recently made the move to here on the Gold Coast .

And I am still very , very homesick lol!

I was hatched in a laboratory in Transylvania in the year 1642. My father was a mad scientist and he wanted the perfect offspring. I have the knowledge of all ages and breath like death!

As you can see I have yet to grow up

Hahaha yeah I can be a little crazy at times

Newnes is great, love going there We try and go there as much as possible! But hopefully the novelty doesn't wear off, otherwise we might be reduced to poking each other with sticks for something to do!

Where is this Newnes?? I know Wallerawang but am pretending I don't...

Ally - whatyoutalkinabout? My memory has failed me again... Dammit.

Choppa - the Gold Coast?? Eeek. Too hot. How do you do that heat??

The Mountains was the very best place for horseriding, there's been many feral full speed adventures through that wilderness!
