I might give that a go when I get my car up and running (silly thing doesn't have any door handles)
There's one not far from my place but I cant get there by public transport

Im in the same boat as you, I know a far few people IRL but only like cousins and inlaws.

My gfs kind of vanished 1 by 1 when I married and had kids. Less and less in common. Kinda sucks but what can you do lol

I would suggest joining forums, I know you like costume stuff. Why not join a steampunk forum, steampunk is huge in melb.

If I end up moving back to Melb I'll make sure its nearby so you can come over and have coffee often (oh and bring your doggies)

    * light bulb goes off *

I was watching "The Circle" on Channel 10 yesterday morning. They did an article on a dog forum which is aimed at meeting other dog owners in your area for play dates etc.

    Check this out Matey ....

Thanks Gsd, I'll check that out at home.

I did sign up to a site like that a while ago, but never contacted anyone.
It's a little hard as I've developed a fear of my dogs meeting other dogs which makes things a bit hard. I want to get Griffen back into classes when I get my car going to try to get over this.

You might be able to watch the segment through that site or Channel 10's site. The lass that started the site talked about the "scraps" some dogs get into & didn't seem to be too worried about the fact that some of them don't get along. She had a "dog's will be dog's" attitude. Nothing ventured though mate ....

I was on there for a while, heaps of people organising doggy playdates, sitters etc. Should be loads in the Melbourne area. I dropped off because my dogs already have a pretty big social circle, but could be good for you and the dog!

wow I thought I was strange in the fact I had no friends

I have friends that have moved all over the place that I speak to often on the phone but not 'real' friends I can have coffee with for literally hundreds of kms. (except my boyfriend lol)
I thought moving to adelaide might be good for a new start, make new friends etc but so far thats not going so well.
Doesnt help though when I am also shy, awkward, lazy and a little bit to comfortable with it being just me and my boyfriend haha.
It does really get me down sometimes on a friday night though when I just wish I had someone to go have a laugh at the pub with (besides my bf!)

Honestly I am glad to know im not the only one

I thought I would just add that its not all that odd. I only have one really good friend and I have known her from highschool, we just managed to stick together. I have other friend I sometimes go to birthdays and nights out with but I dont really talk to them that much. I used to be one of those people who went out all the time and spent all their time socialising but I got sick of the one way effort it took.
To me one friend who I can drop in on no matter the time, one friend who when we rock up to eachothers places can just help themselves to anything like we live there, that is far more important than having lots of friends who I can not talk to properly.

Breeding, Showing, Training and general crazy making!!!

Bordeaux, I'm another one who really doesn't have friends near where I live. My two closest friends are interstate, one I haven't seen for over five years, the other one would be approx 18 mths since I saw her.
My husband doesn't really have any close friends here either. We both have associates, but that is about it!
Good luck, try some classes or dog groups etc.! You never know who you might meet.
