Thread: I'm Doing It - Stop Smoking Support Please!

DA, I'm right here with you honey. I'll be with you every step of the way Darling.

Don't do "mental gymnastics" over why you stopped. You'll do your head in. Just give yourself a BIG pat on the back for taking the first step.

Drink plenty of water with lemon juice in it to cleanse your mouth & body.

Peel some carrots, cut them into snack sized pieces & have them in a container ready to munch on. If not carrots, then celery or something else that's fairly low in calories & is healthy.

Get some fibre into you. Nicotine is a diauretic (?). Without it, you'll be so clagged up & cranky in no time mate ... and then you'll REALLY want a cigarette. Get just a little more exercise ..... "Logan !!! Want to play with Mummy in the back yard ?"

When you get an "urge" ..... don't panic. It only lasts for a few minutes. Stop what you're doing (if driving, pull over), close your eyes, take a very deep breath, hold for as long as you can & then slowly release. This will release the endorphins you need to piss the craving off. Keep repeating this breathing pattern until the urge passes. And then give yourself a big pat on the back, cause that's one cigarette you didn't have girl.

So glad you started this thread. It will be like a"diary" for everyone else who's in the "grip" & wants to stop. Notice I didn't say "give up". You haven't "given up" a thing DA ... except being a slave to nicotine.

Mate, let's just put it this way. If I was still fagging away, I wouldn't be able to afford the attic ladder with ceiling storage that is happening at my place next week.

Go get 'em girl & anybody else that wants to join this party.

That's true, so look at all that you are achieving. I cannot wait for the day that Attic is finalised. You have wanted this for so long!!!

One thing I won't be doing is chewing gum. I find that horrific, having grown up with cows chewing their cuds all day. Urghh.

So if the urge comes on, when it does I do love celery, so will keep some of that in the fridge each week, and yeah, heard that taking sips of fresh water kills the urge.

Please keep posting the 2 of you ... and anyone else who wants to join. If you're typing when you get an urge, you're not thinking about puffing away & the urge will be gone by the time you've added your post.

Excessive chewing is not good for your teeth & gums anyway so my dentist tells me.

If MAC's threat wasn't enough of an incentive, perhaps I can seal the deal....not only will you have MAC and her lot arrive on your doorstep, I will also pack up the gang and come to harrass you AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!

Why don't you split the money you save, put half towards a family dinner and half towards a bigger "treat" - like a holiday....hehe come to Sydney!

    YOU GO GIRL!!!!
