    Von..

I'm so ruddy confused, which is not hard anyway cause i'm a blonde

Now what type of broadband do i have though... i don't have telephone broadband because my modem doesn't require a phone line, i don't have a dish on my roof etc..

But my net connection cuts out during very heavy cloud such as thunderstorms etc.. so i'm under the impression that my internet is running of the satellites with out the need of a dish on my roof ????

If you have crap mobile coverage, none of the "normal" wireless ones work. Telstra did not tell me that when I signed up and I just had to get a refund.

The government pays the set up costs of the dish etc for satellite broadband and we just pay for usage on a plan for 3 years through Activ8 me. Different plans for different usage requirements. The dish looks much like the ones for Pay TV.

I used to have a desk top pc so it is wired to the modem in a spare room. Now with the laptop I use a router. Sometimes it seems it is as slow as dialup but on the whole I am pleased with it. I also kept dial up on for times the satellite was out or there was thick cloud cover. My son now usus the dial up at his flat mostly.

Any posts made under the name of Di_dee1 one can be used by anyone as I do not give a rats.

The government has a subsidy for set up cost on satellite broadband for those who cannot get ADSL or wireless broadband of a certain speed under a certain cost.

AF, I think you are on Wireless Broadband, not Satellite! AFAIK, think of your wirelss modem/router as a weird mobile phone!

My ex set up a wireless dial up system for me so I didn't have phone lines running all over the house, that's been great! I've been looking at whirlpool which discusses all things IT related, it's interesting reading. Di, your comment about keeping a dial up account is something that I think about - very wise, as I understand satellite can get really crappy speeds in bad weather or drop out altogether!

I've never had bb so it's not like I'm missing something I used to have. Lol sometimes dial-up is handy to avoid phone calls!

Originally yes! PMSL. AF, when i see dishes on rooves or on stands in the ground, I naturally assume they are there to be used for sledding around a property. What hope have I got with ruddy computers. I can hardly manage anything without my saviour Di giving me step by step instructions. Calmly. With patience. A lot of patience!
