You'd be surprised. My mom had her foot operated on last year, needed 8 months off work, 6 of which she wasn;t aloud to walk.
She thought this would be great but after 2 and half months she was sweeping the floor using the computer chair because she was so bored

Good luck with your op, I hope it all goes smoothly for you and recovery is speedy (but not too speedy lol enjoy the 6months off)

I was home the 2nd day after my c-sect and back on full house duties the next morning...c-sect nothing compared to back surgery I know.

ohhh Pugga... good luck for a successful operation & speedy recovery, sending healthy vibes & prayers your way

Don't forget to milk the "no house work" duties for as long as you can, play the "unwell mummy" game on the kids for as long as you can, it's called payback time

I'd try milking it until they leave home, personally.

It must have been a tough decision to have surgery even though you're living with so much pain.

I wish you all the luck in the world for a successful operation & speedy recovery

i wish you luck as well..

but.... and i am sorry, but i do hope you have done a good deal of research, and thought very long and hard on this decision. my mother had similar done to her spine, she has lost a great deal of flexibility, and a good deal of her independence, and seems to have even more pain than before the 13 hour operation. yes, she was quoted 6-8 hours. she almost did not wake up afterwards. this is not something i would ever think of doing myself.

oh.. and btw... mum was also told 6 months or so for recovery, but after the first year, she had another operation to take some of the lower pins out to see if that would help with the extra pain she was having, it did not help. it's been a few years now, and she is still needing help to shower, and dress herself. she has a daily carer. her worst trouble is trying to use toilet paper. (i couldn't think of a better way to put that)

    Gosh Zen.. your poor Mum
I get the toilet paper thing.. I can't "twist" around for the first 2 hours of the morning either
See? I am already stuffed, surgery is my only chance, the worst that could happen is no improvement.

Pugger, I think you're going into this with your eyes open and the best attitude I've ever seen.
I know a few ppl who have had similar ops, and they went into with such high expectations thinking it was going to make them feel 100% fit and better again. Then they got a shock if it didn't quite turn out that way IYKWIM.

Yep doctors and surgeons aren't miracle workers if it works I will be over the moon, if it doesn't well at least I gave it a shot.
