    Unhappy Nightmares

Ok I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for out of this thread but here goes.

When I was younger I dreamed, alot. Mostly repeating nightmares that I can still recall in great detail. I believe they started after a traumatic experience with a turkey (dont laugh, it was terrifying to an 8 yo)

This continued untill early teens when my brother gave me a book on how to control dreams. Using this I was able to get to a point where while the nightmares didn't stop I could recognise them and change them mid-dream.
When said turkey who started all this died the dreams stopped.

For most of my life after I have dreamt but usually remember very little if any. Occationally the vivid nightmares will start again, some to the point of having to take time off work. But they've only lasted a couple of days.

They've recently started up again. Not full blown nightmares but not good dreams either. They're lasting longer this time and I'm thinking of digging up my book again just so I can get a peacefull nights sleep.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has problems with nightmares? If so how do you cope?

My nightmares don't sound as bad as yours, I just tell myself that it is a nightmare & that I have to wake up. Sometimes I think I have woke up but I am still in the nightmare which freaks me out but I literally in my dream I close my eyes & tell myself that it isn't real & I keep shouting wake up until I eventually do.

hard not to giggle at 'turkey experience'.. but i can understand... they are pretty scary things, I have a thing against geese.

I have terrifying dreams a usually few times a week, which can vary sometimes i can go a few weeks without them, I wake up from them in a panic and cannot go back to sleep. Always about not being able to get away or protect my family, usually from some sort of mutated human (think 48days later type thing). I can't picture being able to stop the dream mid way and change it, I wke up and go do something different for 10mins then try to go back to sleep. Sorry i couldnt offer any better advice

I used to be able to wake myself up too unfortunatly I'm out of practise. It's been about 3 years since the last time my dreams got bad enough to need to.

I dont blame you for giggling about the turkey Rebec, I almost didn't write that in because it makes most people laugh. Cant go near the things now, I remember being trapped by one at a hobby farm once, bf at the time couldn't stop laughing while I was in tears coz the thing kept following me.

After my break up with my ex i had horrible nightmares, to the point I woke up sweating and shaking. I was always terrified of him and not knowing where he was and in such a lost state (heavy drinking & drug using)
After I started mediation they stopped and I've only had a handful since. Is there anything stressful that could be causing them?

I've had some really strange dreams.
Just after I found out I was Pregnant I dreamt my xbf was out the front downstairs calling for a blanket to take the Baby to see his dad.
In slow motion I threw down a Pink Blanket.

I ended up having a baby girl and even creepier, his parents broke up just before bubs was born and his mum moved away so it was just his dad..

I also had really random dreams of places but Its hard to see them exactly, the other week I went to see my bf and we took the kids to the park and I got a really uneasy feeling and then realised it was a place I had dreamt about...
