Thanks Terrorbull - I am insured, but have not had a police check done, how do I go about that? Do I just go into my local cop shop and ask for one?

Thanks to you too GSD, will PM you.

Yeah, but I know you offer the service & can refer people in your area if I hear of someone looking.

REALLY quicklt, have to fly....but you need to be in regular contact with past adoptive parents. I send out something on a monthly basis. Whether it be a dog training newsletter I receive from elsewhere, or just a latest news thingy. Sent out our move last week, have 4 boarding bookings already!! 1 month each!! PM me your # and I will call you and give you more info.

I'd start by buying a card holder and asking your own vet if you can leave some cards there. I'd also ask any of your regular clients if they can ask their vet(s) if they can leave some cards (in a card dispenser) there too. So the vet knows someone who likes and uses the service, is recommending them.

You might also ask if you can put an ad in the newsletter of any dog clubs that meet in the areas you service. And if your regulars are members, that can help with the ad placements.

And you can put an ad in the local newspaper (not the daily one people pay for, the weekly free one). And if you're feeling really brave, you can do a couple of "press releases" for your local radio stations. Try to make it sound a bit like a news story, ie local business looking to expand and add some "human interest" by talking about the fostering and GAP stuff. You might not get any response for months but then something will happen and they will be looking for an expert on dog minding / walking or Greyhound adoption and maybe call you.

If you do manage to get an interview on talk back radio, have some of your regulars primed to call in and say how much they like your service.

    Popped my head in GSD's!

Greys, I can ask Judd to check out your business as well, although I think he'll finish up with GSD's first, then move on to yours. With his help I went from having maybe a client a month to having 37 animals to look after over christmas alone. The results were phenomenal. Just let me know if you want me to do this.

Judd won't do the work for you, but he will explain how and why to do certain things, why they will work, what will attract people and he always makes sure you understand something before moving on to the next thing.

Popping MY head in here too before I have to feed the masses!

Hy, I am thinking along the same lines as you suggested re getting cards into vets. I think I will concentrate more around areas close to the coast, rather than out this way (though I will still try) as tbh I don't think there is really a huge market for my services. Completely different demographic so to speak.

AGB, of course I would love it if Judd would be able to spare a little time to have a look-see. No problems if it's down the track, I've kind of jumped on board GSD's coat-tails (thanks for your support GSD) with getting ideas. I've got a few good ideas from the lovely peeps here that I am going to do some research on, and figure out HOW to do it - I'm a bit of a chicken with some things!

I will certainly be re-reading this thread over the next few weeks, let the suggestions ferment while I work out who/where to approach, and what to approach with.

You go girl. I never tire of hearing how well people do in business & just how they got there. Invariably, their stories always give me a few "Hey !! That could work for me too" moments. The product/service they are offering might be different, but the principles are basically the same.

I got a whole new "look" (bags, magnets etc) for the biz in less than 12 months just by asking for help & accepting constructive criticism.

    So excited for you.
