They pull up the floors and pull down the walls of their houses that they have been handed and BURN them then ask for a new one, which they promptly do the same thing to. And we keep handing these people more.

I also have issue with the ones who decide to lay themselves across the roads and act like they have been hit so they and a group of their friends can hijack the car and the person driving. I learnt the hard way NOT to help. The first time I did I was knifed and left on the side of the road while they drove off in my car. I still bear the scar from this and I will NEVER forget the faces of those who knifed me. I hope for their sake they never EVER come across me again. After that (was the first drive I ever took in the NT), when hubby and I were posted in the NT I refused to even get groceries by myself. When hubby was away (which was about 2.5 years out of the 4 we were there) his collegues who were able to stay home took me shopping with them, otherwise I didn't eat.

Hell, it's to the point in the NT that the military personnel have to have an ARMED guard when they go to collect alcohol for an organised event being held on the base.

This is the behaviour that I abhor, not the indigenous people who work, feed their kids, obey the laws and are an asset to society - I have plenty of friends who are like this. Now, I realise that the indigenous people of this country have had a hard past, and frankly a disgusting one, so have the American Indians and so many other races too, but the past is past, BUT now they are HANDED EVERYTHING and are still saying how hard done by they are. If you can explain to me why I should have respect for people like that then be my guest, for the moment though I will judge each one on their own behaviour.
I don't think you should have respect for ANY person who does that stuff.. I don't care what colour their skin is.. believe me, I have been attacked an assaulted also.. never by an Aboriginal person though.

In regards to burning down houses and dumping cars etc, some do it, they are terrible alcoholics, with ruined pasts, living in a white mans world.
Europeans brought alcohol in this country and gave it to them freely, while taking away everything.. what were they left to do?

Some (alot) of Aboriginals DON'T get stuck in a alcohol abuse cycle.. just like many Non Aboriginals don't. Many Aboriginal people survive and work, bring their children up well, are respected and are the voices of their people.

There are far more services for a struggling alcoholic white fella than there is for a black fella. Do you actually know the true history of this Country? There is a reason for their current demise.. it's not their genetic makeup.

Pugger, I implore you to leave the thread and just ignore the words that are said. It will be hard for you to view the comments objectively because you are so close to it, in fact, I find it impossible at times and I am not even indigenous.

Studies show that racism is borne from ignorance and fear. Hold your head high and pity people who do not have a broader understanding of the world and the people who live in it. Don't allow hate to enter your heart in this debate.
    Who asked you??

Hey Pugger, why not go up to Arakune , Napranum or Doomadgie & see how much your welcome?, the whites live behind security fences, including the local police who I am friends with. No one forces them to drink just as no one forced me a recovering alcoholic, your arguement is very thin at best.

I don't need your permission to post Mal.

    That was seriously uncalled for!

Pugger, what I know is what I have seen with my own eyes, and the VERY little I was taught in school - Which more than likely is biased and I don't think it is the entire story.

Please take note that I did also say "for the moment though I will judge each one on their own behaviour" I do not for a second tarnish every one with the same brush. But when I was in the NT what happened once was enough for me to accelerate past any person laying on the ground unless I could see they were legitimately hurt - I did help one motorcycle rider who I came across without incident, only because I could see that an accident had happened.

I don't believe that the indigenous should have so many hand outs, I believe it should be equal. I don't see the indigenous people as below me but I refuse to see them as above me.

Indigenous people in the NT are given FREE education, Jobs handed to them, Alcohol consumption is limited, they are HANDED homes, cars, money for food and sometimes vouchers as well, free medical care and the list goes on. I realise there isn't as much for people outside the NT but there shouldn't be that much HANDED to them in the first place!

I am asking this sincerely, what is the true story?

I am welcome Mal I am married to an Aboriginal person and welcomed by his mob and many other mobs in the NT who I am close friends with.. sisters with even.
My children carry Aboriginal blood in their bodies.

If Aboriginal people hated all white people, then there wouldn't be so many interacial families would there

I have to tell you AF ... as one of the sponsors for that comp, I would have seriously picked him if you'd got some fangs on him either for real or photoshopped.

They are handed free education.. WHITE MANS EDUCATION!!! Their culture is their own and they should be able to get educated in their way by their elders and use their own knowledge to work.
If you look at the educational statistics Aboriginal people are 80% less likely to finish year 9 then Non-Aboriginal people. These are young children we re speaking about.. Not abusive alcoholics.

There is a reason why they get hand outs. The government is STILL trying to assimilate them. They can't get jobs so they are given hand outs. They can't get jobs because they lack the uni degrees to get decent wages.
It's a vicious cycle. The Elders of these communities don't even want the handouts. They want to have a better education system for their people and better job opportunities.. better health care, more awareness... the list goes on. Don't believe what the media says.. they never have and never will show the situation in it's true light.
