Chocolate beer (unsweetened chocolate) - Coopers Dark Ale...

If beer could taste like smooth dark chocolate... that would be it.

I wonder if you could provide an example of what your mum rates as "good quality" wine. Ie to get a good quality Penfolds - I think the starting price is $50 per bottle and you have to keep it 10 years before drinking (bin 389). Less than that and I'm not really interested, but other wineries will sell you stuff just as good or better for much much less. And one of my mum's friends used to pour us french wine on a regular basis - but I hated all of it. I've had one bottle of french wine that didn't taste like watered down vinegar - and I forget what it was (oops - care factor?).

Quite a few wine snobs have been known to pour their guests crap wine - just to see who notices and is rude enough to say something. Those guests get the good wine - eventually.

My mum is a fan of red, I'm not sure what type (I'll check brands later) but I know she's been aging a two hundred dollar bottle (properly, not just leaving it lol) since I was born for my twenty first...I say to her, I don't like wine so what we gunna do? She says...Everyone else will enjoy it

If it was my last meal - I'd smash the dishes before I washed them - what are they going to do - shoot you?

DGP - you could ask your mum to auction the wine and spend the proceeds on something you like...

Brand alone doesn't tell you if the wine is any good - neither does price, although it can be a guide within a brand of what the wine maker thinks.

Eg Jacobs creek - the bottom of the line stuff $10 per bottle - I'm not interested in but a certain level of the Show quality family reserve stuff - I forget how they describe it, but more like $50 a bottle - is quite good drinking. But I can get a Bethany for half the price that I like as much.
