I wouldn't pay, too many forums to choose from without paying.

But I do like the idea of a section you cant have access to without a certain amount of posts.

Cons - as I see them.

    1) Many ppl may simply go elsewhere. As has been pointed out, there's lots of forums out there to choose from.

    2) Some ppl may think that a forum is not worth spending money on.
    3) Why should guests get to view anything if other members have to pay for the privilege?
    4) Any VIp room for members would have to be really bloody interesting to make it worthwhile.

Pros - as I see them.

    1) Helps Morgan or forum master to cope with running costs etc...
    2) Spammers/trollers would think twice if they have to part with cash to get in.
    3) Ppl having tantrums and walk-outs would cool down and come back to try again as they've paid for the year! PMSL at that one!!!
    4) It might get a little busier and not be dead so much of the time, as ppl will maybe get on here more to get their money's worth?

Look, lots of pros and cons to consider, that's just a few. I'm sure others woul have different ideas about the good and bad of having paid membership.

On one of the Pug forums I am on, we have a section called 'Fanatics'. It is open to members only by invitation and none of it is viewable to the public, not in searches or anything either. In fact, I dont think they can even see the section.

It works well for discussions that we might want to have that are of a personal and private nature and that we don't want the www to really know of.

Hi Dorte........ i'm all for paid membership. I think it would be great to have different levels of membership "Standard or Gold or VIP". Standard only limited to certain parts of the forum, Gold & VIP having full access to all of the forum & different breed groups etc. I certainly would appreciate the full benefits of being a VIP. Hopefully by paying to join it will stop the spammers, trolls & the junior/younger annoying "time waster" members.

I think making a VIP for the amount of posts isn't quite fair.
For axample, someone like DH is more quality over quantity. But she is a regular, avid poster, she just doesn't take part in chat threads, count to a million thread etc.

It won't minimalise trolls or spammers. If becoming a paying member only allows you to access a VIP section, rather then everything else, how is it meant to be minimalise them? There's still areas that they can access and troll. On another forum I frequent, suscribers are able to sell items and animals (it's a reptile forum), and are allowed to enter the "Suscribers Only Competitions", and they are able to get into a section where bulk sales were at a reduced price.

Personally, after being a subscriber there, I can say that I probably wouldn't become a subscriber here. There just wasn't much point.

Yes, I agree on the numbers.

Some people may not rack up a million posts every week but that doesn't make them any less worthy of being able to access restricted areas. Although I would think that post count is the most common way that access to varying levels of restricted areas is commonly done??

Perhaps a VIP section (invite only or on post count) can be set up anyway.. and as far as paying goes.. a $2 donation for those who wish to help Morgan out.. or maybe even some advertising.

Having a section based on the number of posts you have is likely to increase trollers Personally, I'd rather the time you've been here, such as a year or two.

IMO, there is a younger age member here who is a time waster with their discrepancy posts etc.
