I wouldn't pay. Forums are a dime a dozen and I am a member of so many and they are all free. I can't see the value in paying to be honest. WHo really cares about the trolls and spammers. Granted they can be annoying but then so can some members.

As an added thought, I would think it would be declarable as income for tax purposes and so Morgan would have to weigh that up.

I agree. Thousands of forums do perfectly ok without having there members pay money.
If you wanted to do a VIP section, we could some how do after a certain amount of time on the forum(say a year), then your allowed in. That would possibly give members more incentive to hang around.

It wasn't just for the trolls/spammers...it was to support Morgan too!

Ok Morgan...I'll throw this out there...who pays you for your time...running this Forum?

Yep...you are right...some members can be annoying

Are you asking just me to answer all pros and cons? Or everyone?

My guess would be that Morgan gets money for having ads on the forum?

I like Myf's idea about a certain amount of time spent on the forum or even a certain amount of posts works well. On a parenting that I'm a member of there are secret sections for when you reach 1000 and 5000 posts

Morgan has the choice though of running a forum or not running a forum. He/She isn't made to do it for some altruisitc cause. He/She does it because he/she wants to so throwing in the 'poor Morgan gives up his/her time' is not really relevant.

Anyone can run a forum and many people do.

In the end it is Morgan's choice but I wouldn't be paying as I said so I guess that would be 1 member less. I am sure that many more would also leave as, like me, they won't see the value in paying for something that is free every where else.

Some forums I am on have paid subscriptions if you choose to pay, or choose not to. I do a subscription to one of them. It gives you a title and the ability to customise your profile, a bigger mailbox, stuff like that. I didn't do it for any of the above reasons but just to help out with costs on a forum I liked.

It has no effect on spammers and trolls.

Quite frankly when I was looking for dog forums, if I found one that was pay up or you can not view I would just move on to the next one saying hahahaha, you wish. Why pay for something that may have been inactive for a year?

Same would occur with me if I could view but not post till I paid....bugger that.

Any posts made under the name of Di_dee1 one can be used by anyone as I do not give a rats.

I think this is a brilliant idea
