This all changed when my mother was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas (sp?). It was too far gone for any treatment. When pressured the specialist said she might make it to Christmas if she was lucky and did she want a script for pain killers? She never took any painkillers at all.

Christmas was mum's favourite time of year and she was determined to enjoy it in good heath and as many as possible afterwards.

I took her to the Ian Gawler sessions on living with cancer. These are fantastic. Meditation, allowing the body to heal itself through correct attitude and diet and also how to die well. I learnt as much as my mother through these sessions and have become a nicer person because of them.

Mum had eight good Christmases after diagnosis. Her death was not related to the cancer. For the two weeks prior to her death you could see she was getting ready to let go. Her mind and her body knew it was time. She was hospitalised the day before she died and I was with her at the end. She died peacefully and well. My BIL who is a Thai Buddhist said a good death showed she was not only worthy in this life but in her previous life as well.

My gentle Buddhist BIL is fighting his own battle with cancer now but he's doing well.

    Attitude really is everything.

I suffer from a condition where 50% of people are still alive 5 years after diagnosis. If I chose to look at it as 50% of people are dead 5 years after diagnosis I probably wouldn't be typing this today.

Is the glass half empty or half full? To me it's always half full and maybe a wee bit more.
Thanks for posting this Deerhound, what a lovely story. Both my parents are extremely unwell at the moment and I'm afraid I'm not coping with it too well, so this touched me.

Maybe it's just my take on things, and it's a total coincidence, but I felt a few posters decided to have a break directly following that thread where Occy was being attacked.

??? As i say, could be coincidence. Jeez, my cat is getting very interested in the computer, and keeps jumping all over the keyboard! Funny girl!
