    I don't think the conern is that it might 'hurt' people's feelings Cleasanta, like a nsaty or hurtful remark. It is offensive. It is the same as being racist or ****phobic or even denigrating disbled people.

    Vulgar language is offensive to many and there is no way of knowing what minors are reading the board.
    I AM a parent and I wouldn't let my kids use a Forum unsupervised! If you let your child sit on the Internet unsupervised, then in my opinion...it is YOUR fault what your child can or can not read/be a part of. ANY public forum can be dangerous to a child...being a dog forum or not. It is our job as parents to determine whether or not it is a safe place for our children.

    Ok then...so what you are saying is that swearing is vulgar and therefore offensive to you and those on whose behalf you choose to speak. I can understand that. But you seem to miss my point which was...that it is just as easy to be offensive without swearing. What one person finds offensive is not necessarily another person's offensive! I can put up with swear words, but I find degrading, hurtful and nasty comments offensive! I find deliberate belittling offensive! I find personal attacks offensive! You should know this if you read the posts from me when Occy was attacked.

    An example...you said in a post that Kassie should strive to do her best regarding her spelling and posting. I am pretty sure I told you she had ADHD and some type of Autism and was only 15. Your reply was something along the lines of..."that is no excuse"...am I right? Seriously...who made you the Mother Superior here? Do you think your comment to Kassie made her feel better about herself? Kassie has a disability, but you didn't have a problem posting a comment like that in a public forum...to a 15 year old girl and then dismiss her reasons as irrelevant. I find your lack of empathy offensive and indeed the majority of your posts reeking of self-perceived superiority.

    Not that that has a thing to do with this original thread.

    The OP can ask that people refrain from using swear words as she doesn't appreciate it. It is up to each person here whether they choose to oblige or not. Personally, I wish people would refrain from using abusive language too.
    Some kids swear a lot. From my observations, it is generally the kids who get in trouble more who swear - they use the words as part of their speech rather than for any other reason. Generally, if we are in the vicinity most refrain, and I usually just say "language" and they invariably reply "Sorry miss" and we leave it at that.

    There are some who drop a bomb every couple of words and they TEND to be the real brats.

    I swear like a demon with my friends, but I tend to leave it off forums, and out of work obviously.

    I do think think that on a dog forum swearing should generally be unnecessary, however, so should what lead to it. Dog ppl tend to be the biggest bastards though.

    I'll get one of the kids to write a full list of swear words if you like

    LMAO@Occy's post. Around here, we have found the richer the kids are, the more they swear, to my utter disbelief!

    So how does a demon swear? Na, on 2nd thoughts, I know! Lol.

    If you want to see pre-pubescent boys at their worst, just read a forum called slashdot.org on level -1.

    I'd never expect an unmoderated forum to be safe for anybody. And I learnt early on, in my forum surfing days not to click on links without checking first where they are going.

    Hint - when you roll your mouse over a link there is usually a display of where it goes somewhere on the window eg bottom left for internet explorer. If it ends in gtse.jpg or variations on that theme, I aint clicking.

    I would ask that you apologise now for the attack as you are way off base and way out of line. I never once told Kassie that her disabilities were irrevelant nor did I imply that.

    For your benefit I have posted the EXACT posts here;
    Anne:
    kassie, can I give you some advice. When you type a message, read back over it. That way, you may notice a few typos and errors and be able to fix them.

    Most of your errors seem to be based on a lack of re-checking what you write.

    Your posts are very difficult to read because of the errors.

    Cleasanta;
    Kassie has a form of autism and ADHD and she can't spell very well...she is only 15.

    Anne:
    Yes, I know. Kassie can spell and type much better than what she is doing today which is shown by previous posts. High expectations is a good thing.

    Even people who are classified as IO can re-read what they have written to pick up on errors. Checking your typing before hitting 'post' or 'enter' can only be a good thing, particularly given her apparent problems. No-one expects Rhodes scholars here but always striving for the best is preferable.

    Anne:
    I guess you could call it 'motherly advice'.

    Devils Advocate:
    No, just good, helpful advice.

    I don't communicate with Kassie much because of the hassle of trying to ascertain what she is writing. If she could proof read her sentences before posting, then yes, it would be a lot better for all of us, Kassie particularly.

    Give it a go Kassie, and you'll probably find people chat with you here far more then.

    It was kelpiemum a few posts further along who then stated that ADHD should never be used as an excuse.

    Your post is personally attacking me Cleasanta and I don't take kindly to it.

    As for supervising children, I am sure most do surpervise their children as best as they can. Still, many minors read and contribute to this board, including Kassie who you have so wrongly accused me of insulting.

    The point though is that the audience is largely unknown as it is the internet and swearing is considered offensive, hence why it is actually an offence under Australian Law.

    Thanks Morgan for fixing it and providing a solution. I apppreciate not having to read the expletives that are thrown into posts on occassion.
