I wouldn't want to be near the hunter.

But the map from the Rural fire service is very informative - as long as they keep it up to date.

If it's any consolation - it's nice weather in SA headed East. Rain even.

We got 32mls which is great -- poured down all night. Have relatives up in the HUnter Valley so will have to find out if they are near the fires. My youngest daughter has been here for a visit for just over a week from north of Adelaide & she is hoping to get some of our rain over there for when she gets home tomorrow, but I think it usually works the other way around doesnt it? We get Adelaide weather not them getting ours.

Most weather in southern Australia travels from West to East. Has to do with the drag on the atmosphere by the earth's rotation, sun and moon. The ocean currents in the Pacific and Indian oceans have some influence but mostly it's great big bits of air breaking off from the south and travelling west. That's the cool air anyway.

Some weather comes from the North, especially when there are left over bits of cyclones. But the northern weather and to some extent the Indian ocean currents are all mucked up by all the burning forests that are happening in Indonesia. It's formed some sort of temperature block and hot spot up there which stops the normal currents and monsoons. A weather scientist showed me a whole lot of thermal images - and it is quite frightening. The ones he showed me of the carribean were even scarier. And that was just before Hurricane Katrina and all that happenned.

The only time Adelaide gets weather from the East is when there is a big cyclone come inland from around Brisbane, Coffs Harbor area. We get easterly gully breezes but that's local.

    Simple loops
