They do but dont like to. He had to answer lots of questions although they cant refuse him as long as he is over the age of 18. Bit ridiculous if you ask me. there should be counselling involved etc IMO. He was going through an extremely hard time then and didnt think he would find someone else (he had just split with his ex) or find someone who he would want kids with.

Now however......We both want kids at some stage and during the interim have to save the thousands of dollars for a reversal procedure

It doesn't matter how old I am - going on the pill is risky too, but it's legal. Having your tubes tied has nothing in common with trying to commit suicide - the intention of the two acts are completely different. Getting breast implants is legal, but that can kill too. Any surgery is risky and can kill you - heck a vaccine can kill you. Let's just reject any sort of medical attention or service - and let's make having kids illegal too - lots of people die from that.

Oh, really late addition to my last post: when i say in my opinion getting your tubes tied should be legal, I'm not saying I'm against reasonable age restrictions on the procedure.

I had a tubal ligation at 23. I have never regretted it. I only ever wanted 2 children, I had them, so I had a ligation.

It was so long ago (more than 20 years ago) that I honestly can't recall how much I paid or how much was covered. I was privately insured and had it done in a private hospital though.

Good for you! I agree with the others there should be an age limit on it. Is it a very invasive surgery or just keyhole?

Keyhole. I was up and about that day and only stayed in overnight as my body doesn't like GAs much. That was over 20 years ago as I said so it is probably even more refined now.

I too had a tubal a year after my second child in 1985. It was keyhole too. mine were cut and cauterised as I did not want clips that may fall off. I was adamant that I wanted no more kids. I did that before I left my first husband. I later remarried a man who had no Kids. I (with my stomach plummeting) told him that if he wanted kids he had till I was age 35 to let me know and I would attempt a reversal. I thank every lucky star that when I asked him, on my 35th birthday and he said he was happy just with the two I had. I was prepared to give him a child if he really wanted one of his own. It would have been loved by me as much as my own two but it was something I really would have preferred not to do if I had the choice.
