Sorry, I've been a wee bit blue in the last week, so haven't been looking at a lot of the new threads. I'll pop in & have a peek now .....

Just back from the vets. Spirit had a lump at the base of her ear & I just needed to get it checked. It's just a fluidy cyst, so nothing to worry about.

The vet who took our appointment did the op on Mish 2 years ago. We got to chatting about all my "kiddies" and she now agrees that Mish is probably going to die of old age & not this cancer. She's done dozens of these ops for this particular cancer on females & she said she's never seen one last longer than 18 months at the very most. I said it was a "big call" to give her the all clear given the legal ramifications, but she's standing by that statement. So, it looks like I can officially stop worrying about Mish dropping off the twig before she's good & ready. The vet knows Mish very well & said "You know she's just done this to tick you off because you got Spirit to keep Tara company for when Mish was supposed to go." A complete inaccuracy I know, but it's good that we can have a bit of a laugh now that it seems she cut it all out when she took Mish's glands out. According to the vet, dogs just don't live once they've been diagniosed with this cancer. I'm one very relieved owner right now.

Good news for Mish seems the big C is coping a bashing all round lately.

Fingers crossed it continues that way.

Thanks MAC. Over 2 years of waking up EVERY DAY thinking "Is today the day ?" takes a toll on you. It will take a while for it all to sink in, but at least now I don't have to constantly stress about whether the old girl is in pain & suffering.

Not sure what you mean by the "bashing" comment mate.

Oh Lynnie, I am so pleased for Mish and you and the other fur kids of course! Relieved to hear that Spirit's lump is just a fluid cyst!

I'll say Di. The Universe was DEFINITELY looking out for me on this one. I changed vets after I lost both Max (cat) & Zena in fairly quick succession after being with them for years. Had I stayed with that vet, there'd be no doubt Mish would be dead by now. Bloody skillful scalpel work 2 years ago by this new vet I'd say has saved my Mish's life. You rarely get good news from a vet in these circumstances & she was very pleased to have been wrong in this instance. I don't think she was wrong in her original diagnosis. I think she was a very skilled surgeon & an was guiding her hand that day she operated on my girl. So bloody relieved .... I'm actually bawling my eyes out as I write. I guess it's all starting to "click in" for me as you all post & I'm chatting to you.

When I got the "all clear" for Mish, I IMMEDIATELY thought of you & your recent loss. I feel so guilty that Mish will live & you've lost your beloved Ralph this week.

Spirit's pretty "bullet proof", but you can't let these things go. Better to be a bit embarressed with a "It's just a ...." than let it go & be told later "Why didn't you bring her in earlier ?"

No need to feel guilty Lynnie, there was no treatment surgery, radiation or chemo that would have saved Ralph! Everything we did was to give him some Quality of Life for a short period of time. You think that you have readied yourself for the end and when it happens you just fall apart because in your heart of hearts you were wishing for a miracle!
It is always better to be safe than sorry with anything to do with our fur kids!
