Aww crap! This morning a friend calls me to tell me she got done for mid-range DUI last night. Totally out of character for her - she's had her licence taken off her, stands to lose her job, and only bought her first home a few months back. She's been suffering from depression and took herself off the meds, and hasn't been coping.

Of course I told her she was a stupid idiot (and more!), but I'll be there for her when she goes to court next week. I hope she answers her phone tonight, so we can have a good talk. If she loses her licence she'll lose everything, and I am really worried she'll do something stupid to herself. She's been isolating herself from everyone since christmas, so I'm pleased that at least she called me.

GAAAAAHHHH!!!! What a bloody moron she is - at least she knows it too.

Oh GAG what a pity for your friend.

It is very good of you to stand by and support her through this

Perhaps she can appeal it and explain that she had stopped taking her medication etc and explain what it is in future she will be doing to control her depression and drinking to stop this from happening again?!

^^^not saying she has a problem with drinking but the court will want to know that sort of stuff ....assholes

    GAG

I've heard some people in your friend's situation can ask for a restricted licence ie they can drive for work and that's it. Maybe she could ask someone if they do that where she is.

And if she's taken herself off the meds - maybe she could make up for it by walking more (check the link I gave for Puggerup). Do you have some hounds looking for a good dog walker?

She doesn't have a drinking problem, she was at a work function and thought she was okay to drive, don't know how many she had. I have spoken to a client who is a police officer to get some advice. Solicitor first, and yes explain about the depression, she's not handling her finances too well (I've told her I will sit down to do a budget with her), and where she's moved to is isolated (like where I live), no public transport, her Mum had a stroke last year and only came out of hospital at christmas so she's been back and forth to Canberra to visit.

I am going to give her a good butt-kicking when I see her. I do not have sympathy for drink drivers, and I told her that. Even so, I hope she can even get a limited licence even if just to use it for work, and they slap her with a massive fine. She needs to pay for her stupidity, but not at the expense of losing everything, she is a good kind person who has been a feking idiot.

    Hi GaG

Work function. There but for the grace of god...

There's been a couple of times where I could feel the alcohol in me, and still drove home. One time I got to blow in the bag and I blew green/zero even though I felt on the edge of tipsy. My Mum has also blown green/zero when she felt tipsy. Go figure. Maybe we're just more sensitive than the breathalyzer to our body chemistry.

I am pretty careful to count drinks - but sometimes... It would be really nice to know one way or the other instead of guessing. And sometimes I go no way am I driving and I find some other way home.

    Update on the dalmation...

I met Doggy Daffodil the dalmation again at the beach this morning with her "new" owner. And I told him if he couldn't look after her or just wanted a holiday without the dog, that the local Dalmation breeder with the boarding kennels would find a home for her (I dropped "Top Spot, Mylor" right in it).

But he seemed to like her. And he said the first owner was still living with his partner in the same block of units. Weird.

Frosty and "Doggy" dalmation had a lovely time playing and wearing each other out again.

Let's hope this owner works out great for her, Hy.
