Toms are pretty resilient.. I just don't water as much as I am a bit careful with water restrictions. I haven't had any dramas though in missing some days. Your covers should work well if you're having that curl problem I reckon. If you're worried about Leo going psycho pooch on your shade and plants you could do up a home remedy - Heaps of blended chillis and water .. strain it off and use the liquid to spray over the cover (and it won't hurt the plants but keep the bugs off) .. it's a liquid (and a dried one by the time Leo sniffs it) so Leo won't be ingesting anything as such, but more smelling it as a deterrent to keep away! You'll also do away with any bug problems... cool!

Good luck mate and happy peaceful growing!

Ps.. de-seeding and replanting can work with Toms too. Recycled potatoes and heaps of stuff! Sing out if you wanna go there. And here I was thinking this was a pooch forum.. now all i need is something to start a music thread and I'm away!!! hehe

Lil Rascal.. ok.. mix in some soap shavings? I'm trying to think of things that aren't in any way toxic.. even though it's dried I kinda always err on the side of caution (hence straining the chilli and seeds so it's just a liquid).

Same, citrolenna maybe? keeps the bugs away too. Will have to see if Leo takes an unliking to it.

Bordeaux, why dont you start your own potted garden now, that way you can take it with you? I still have my potted garden that I moved over from my old house but its in the front yard & i dont like spending alot of time in it as the whole street can see me talking to my plants like a nutter LOL (Alot I actually dug up and re-potted to take with me!) Hoping to move my pot plants in once the shade cloth is up (As they are used to shade, the sun would kill them at the moment)

Why not start with a few potted herbs/flowers/succulents/strawberrys perhaps?

I've only got 9 days before we move so I figure I'll wait.

I have thought about it in the past but I live in a unit and dont trust the kids in the front one not to touch them and the dogs would distroy them if they were in the back.

Tomatos like compost and cow poo. You can put the cow poo in a bucket of water and use the water then top up.

Our gardening guys on Abc adeladie radio garden, say don't water tomatos every day, unless they're in pots, and it is hot weather. They recommend deep soak once or twice a week. If you stuff the watering and fertilizer up, you get "blossom end rot" which is very irritating - but some varieties get it less than others. I'm not bothering to buy Apollo again. Cherry tomatos are great. And go well in pasta surprise.

When it's stinky hot you may have to water every day. And I second what Laura said about not getting it on the leaves. Watch out for caterpillars, might need a caterpillar spray - theres some "organic" human friendly ones around. There's one particular caterpillar that burrows into the actual fruit - very very annoying.

Mad keen here, but without a garden lol. I have A couple of negleted no dig garden beds here but nothing is growing in them as yet.
Before i moved up here i had a full year round aquaponics get up going, complete with perch yabbies etc.

I have only planted a couple of fruit trees here so far.

Just learnt- You can improve your seeds germination rate by spraying aspirin water (1 aspirins dissolved in 5 litres of water) on them before sowing them directly in the ground. The aspirin water can also be used to improve the vigour of lifeless plants and to ward of pests such as aphids. INTERESTING! Will be giving that a go!

Bordeaux- Expect to see some pics from you then once you have settled into your new place (But hey, took us 2 years to settle into our new place and i still call it 'the new place')

Hyacinth- Thanks for your tips! Doing cow poo run this weekend too, my car is going to smell great after this weekend! (hoping to nab some for free!) does it matter if its horse poo? I presume not....

Beau- You Aquatics sound awesome! What kinda fruit you growing & any fruit blossoms yet?

SH- So... wheres your pics of your spectacular garden then hmmm?
