Default Just Got Back from Honeymoon to Find I've Been Card Skimmed!

    Hey everyone!

I just got back from my Honeymoon in America, Disneyland, New York and Las Vegas, it was fantastic! One place was more outrageous than the next.
It's great to be home though, the total flight time was about 19 hours not including the 7 odd hours in transit.
On the last couple of days I checked my bank account and realised someone had been helping themselves to my money!!
They took out a total of $2260!! What a way to get a welcome home present.

Whatever you do cover your pin when using ATM's apparently they have been targeting McDonald's drive thru's over here.

Oh no, do you have any recourse with the card company?

The bank understands that my card has been compromised and I have put in a dispute for the three un authorised transactions, they say they will refund all my money after an investigation which may take up to 45 days
The ladies at the front desk assured that I'd get money money back and it would probably take less than the 45 days.

So glad you won't lose it even though it will take time.

OMG that's shocking. I should be more careful about hiding my pin when I enter it. I never think about it. Having said that if anyone tried to get that much out of my bank account they would be sorely disappointed

Hope you had a great honeymoon

It's not just hiding your pin, but you've got to make sure the swipe machine isn't compromised and it's hard to tell. Best to have a dedicated credit card for travelling. And I'm a big fan of using the big brand hotel for money change/withdrawals and paying for everything else with cash.

Mastercard is very good about giving your money back when the card has been compromised. The other way people have stolen money from me (and family members) is for somebody who works in the shop to rack up a few extra tx when you're gone or when I'm dumb enough not to check the total on the transaction. When you think your flight has been called - you're not all that willing to argue about the amount you're being asked to sign for. I did get my money back though it took a few months.

    Hey hun

his happened to me about 6 months ago, and I can tell you it WILL take 45 days maybe 40 if you are lucky, which is absolute bulldust i know!! They have to contact the 'company' which has claimed the money from your bank account, then ask for a reciept of some sort, they give them 30 days to comply and if they don't then they assume it was fraud and you get you're money back.. The extra 10 - 15 days is to get their act in order...

If you don't mind me asking was it your normal savings account or Credit? If it was your credit account I would seriously be asking for a replacement card and new account number so they can't do it again..
