I think the reason it was strange is because this has obviously never happened before.

Nothing wrong with your post at all IMO, either, Cate.

As Myf has kindly pointed out, the OP thought it was weird, which also tells me this hasn't happened before. As she said, once on the chain he usually chills and just goes to sleep, nice and quiet.

It was werid cuz its never happened before. He usually just sleeps the whole night thru. So i think a cat or something must of come in. The place where he got caught he cant reach from his dog house, its a bit away and up the brick retaining wall. Somehow he pulled the leash from under his kennel foot. The strange thing was that the house hadn't moved position, so i don't know how he managed to get it out, i've tried pulling it as hard as you can and it doesn't just slip. So something really disturbed him to manage to get out. With reguards to the fully secure fence, we are renting so unfortuantely we cant replace the fence or anything, we've fixed it as much as we can, but if my dog wants to get out he'll find a way out even if it means hurting himself in the process, thats why i chain him up at night and when i go to work as these are the times he's does it. It's not really for too long. When i chain him up in the morning before work my husband is usually back from work in a few hours and lets him off. His leash it long enough so he can move around and lay in different places, but i've removed anything around him that he can get tangled in. Thanks for all the concern tho. This is the first time it's happened and it hasn't happened again. The next day he barked like crazy around the same time so i went outside but saw nothing except my pot plant was tipped over, he hadn't gotten off the chain tho.

Are you sure the leash end was anchored properly?, it does sound strange that it slipped from the kennel footing.

Odd, yes. I have no problems with safely chaining a dog either. Boris is always chained when he is over here and every care is given to length, what he can or can nor wrap around. sounds like organic has it all scoped out too and this is a head scratcher. Sometimes they manage to do the most odd things.
