    Default another uneducated person

    hey all...

took jonah to watch a mate play soccer over the weekend.... he hadnt been in the car in ages so i took him along...

as we are watching the game (soccer is bloody boring) people were walking past, some were really good, and asked "can i pat him" others just came up and started patting, which is no issue to me or Jonah, but common sense should apply....

went to get some food from the tuck shop and a drink for Jonah when a lab came up to us.... no stress, Jonah is good with other dogs.... seems this lab wasnt all that good with other dogs..... i could see the way he was acting around Jonah that somthing may go down.... so i kept walking with jonah in tow.

lab came charging towards us, did the old growl and snap at us and tried to pin jonah down..... now im not one to molly coddle my dog, if hes in a scrap so be it, i know he didnt start it, but i did step in between them.... bad thing to do i know, but id rather me take a bite, then have my dog labelled dangerous cos he looks the way he does.

anyway, i get told that i should put a muzzle on my "pitbull" and that the authorities were on there way..... to which i replied, "he's a staffy for starters, even if he was a pitbull, he did nothing wrong... i look forward to speaking to whoever youve called and telling them how your lab started it"

luckily a few people had seen what happened and backed up my version of events..... the labs owners reply was "my dogs a lab, they would never do anythign like that, your pitbull is a child killer"...... which made me laugh, and made them more annoyed cos as they were saying it a kid fell over infront of us and jonah went up to him and dropped next to him........

makes me laugh and makes me mad at the same time, these people realy do believe the hype...... sure i probably didnt help the situation with my smart ass replies but still a win for the bully breeds i think....

Some people will say anything to not get in trouble. -.- Even if it means someone elses dog taking the rap.
No one loves you like your dog does.

I must say - and this is a huge generalisation - that I find a certain type of lab owners often a bit overconfident about their dogs' good nature. They seem to have such a strong reputation as the ideal family dog, that some owners seem to think that they will naturally behave well or at least that everyone will laugh off any annoying behaviour as goofing around. I lost count of how many labs I had try pull the treat bag out of my hands or even pull my coat if I have treats in my pocket and often the owners will not interfere at all. While I do not at all appreciate a dog that size that I don't know being that pushy.

Of course I do know good lab owners too. It is still a very popular breed, so bound to be lots of variety in their owners.

And those comments about the pitbull are just ludicrous. Good response though!

It's no wonder they have a lab with issues, sounds like they have no idea about dogs at all.

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

I second what Beloz has to say. The majority of labs i have come across are extremely rude with just as rude owners.

End of the day, the poor labs seem to be copping it with owners that have a lack of dog knowledge and basic training. Who knows, they could be the next on the 'most dangerous' list LOL

Good on you - from personal experience, there's nothing like laughing at someone's idiocy to set them off, lol!

Year after year after year, the Lab topped the list of most dangerous dog in the UK, simply on the reported bite statistics... all because the Lab is one {if not 'the'} most popular dogs over there, so of course, more of that type of breed, more probability of bites (in the UK, I'm told by a relo who lives there, all bites are reported, even if no action is ever taken by anyone). Dog bite stats lists that get media attention here, I've found, seem to always be "summarised" versions where the inconvenience of popular dog breeds topping the list is edited out to leave only the "dangerous" dog statistics behind, just to promote the "look how many people these dogs have bitten now" mentality...

Just goes to show how 'dangerous' statistics can be twisted - because if breeds were banned based on the number of dog bites reported, Labs, and Retrievers and Beagles and Collies and Setters would all have been outlawed in the UK by now just by nothing more than being popular.

Personally, I would never own a Lab, because I am too easy going as an owner to give them what they need to be at their best - a shame more people don't take notice of what sort of person they are {or are likely to be} as an owner before they go off and get themselves a "friendly" dog.

Lol.... I'm sure if it was any of you guys you'd have stood up for your pooch too.... I'm not saying Jonah is perfect. Far from it. But I know he didn't start that one.
