    Hi Mai & Toby

Is Toby a medical alert dog for you personally? Like warn you of impending epileptic fit? Or is he medical alert for other people for something like cancer?

Just wondering what's involved in the training... And what sort of medical events that alert dogs get trained for.

he is medical alert for me Not epilepsy though, my boy is psychiatric assistance dog.

Psych assistance dogs assist their handlers in many ways.
here is a list of tasks that dogs can be trained. http://www.iaadp.org/psd_tasks.html

There is an organisation specifically for psych assistance dogs in Australia called MindDog, there is also AWARE dogs. We are currently not part of an organisation, but i aim to join minddog when i have the funds.

    Wow.

I think my dog would be somewhat useless at being a psych assisstance dog - well what ever I'm feeling - she likes to join and help eg if I'm angry she will help attack the person (or dog) I'm angry with... not good. Same if I'm a bit anxious or frightened - she will help by trying to drive off the scary thing/person. Not good. Not when they haven't done anything overtly threatening...

Is handy for getting door to door sales people to leave tho.

Some of the stuff these Psych dogs are being taught is incredible!

My dog is much like Hyacinth's dog, he loves me to bits and is very in tune with me.... so when I'm angry with someone, so is he, and if I'm anxious or frightened, so is he!
