    Well,

My Mia turns 1 in 11 days. I am very excited to give her the birthday present I got for her She has grown into such a beautiful girl and has such a lovely nature, but I cant believe how fast the first year has gone.

Does anybody do birthday cakes for their dog? I am thinking of making a her a meatloaf cake with mashed potato for the icing
I've never made cakes for my dogs but i've always thought it was a cute idea
just thought i would mention... i thought that potato is poisonous to dogs... i could be wrong... but i am pretty sure thats what i was told when i got Koda.

I just decided to look it up on google cause i've caught my dogs with potatoes a few times (i have no idea how they got them!)
It says that cooked and mashed potato is okay, but raw potato and the skins are quite bad for them. So i guess you could keep the mash potato idea

Yeah apparently raw potato is poisonous for both humans and dogs due to some enzyme in it. But then why would anyone eat raw potato?
and yes back to the mash potato idea I shall post a picture!!!

'Jess&Mia' - potatoes cooked/mashed are OK - but the problem is when the potato skin turns green - that is when poisonous alkaloids are present - which is harmful to all that have 2 and 4 legs.

Ist Birthday parties for pups are fun ! It was definitely mandatory for my pups - it was a celebration that they reached this milestone in their life !

I tend to follow the KISS principle. If there are people plus pups coming to the 'party' - then I have tended in the past to make just people food - but low in fat/sugar.

A couple of recipes I have used in the past - by Annette Sym in her 'Symply Too Good To Be True' range of cookbooks - that have been popular with both people and pups:

They are low in fat/sugar - make sure with the fruit - no grapes ! Moderation is the key ! What I found with the pups - they were too busy playing to be worried about food ! As long as the water containers were always full of clean water - they were fine.

    Have fun !

Sadly Mia's birthday party had to be cancelled due to a family emergency, she didn't even get to have her cake but I did cook her up a steak and she loves the crap outta her invincible squeaker crocodile I gave her. Its over a meter long!!! She drags it around the house all day

Sad that the birthday party was cancelled - but really - every day for Mia must be a good day with you lot as her 'owners' !

Maybe a photo of the ' invincible squeaker crocodile' with Mia - that you said that she loves - would be appropriate ?

    Hi AllieFay

I think this thread might be it. It doesn't get used much at the moment. Mostly people just post their stuff in the main general part of the forum and that's all good.

I use the links at the top of this page for "new posts" and "today's posts" (under quick links) to see all the new threads and comments.
