    Default Gday!

    Hello all,

would like to introduce myself, my name is Austin (aust for short). My fiancee and I are the proud new owners of a purebred German Shepherd which we picked up only yesterday. We also have an Australian Terrier which is about 4 years old and on top of that we foster dogs for the local animal rescue group down here.

I am new to dog ownership and as yet my Shepherd is unnamed - still waiting to see a little more of his personality before we decide on a name. I wanted a shepherd for their loyalty and also the ability to be a good protector but also be gentle around kids and family - we don't have kids yet but we do have a lot of little ones (nieces, nephews etc) that come to visit so our boy needs to be able to mix with them.

When we picked him up he was in a terrible state with fleas and a few marks on him, his home wasnt the best but he is a purebreed and we saw mum so we are confident that with time and care he will grow up to be a valued family member.

I will have a look around the forum and see what is here, I'm a big fan of forums and my username is pinched from Australian Ford Forums where I'm also a member. Look forward to sharing advice and stories with you all soon.

    Aust

Welcome, I am also from Southern NSW....If you have a GSD, there is a great GSD Club that meets in Wodonga. if you are near there and need any info I will gladly pass it along. It has some great Dog trainers there using positive reinforcement. We work quite a bit with two of the trainers, lovely people

Thats good to know, Im about an hour up the road in Wagga but I am regularly down that way for work.

I am trying to get some good pics of Jake (temporary name but it might just stick) but we are trying to train him a little bit too. The biggest things Ive got to get him right on is pooing in the right spot (which the verandah isnt) and coming to us when we call him. He amazed me last night, first ever time on a lead and he was happy to go with it and come for a walk.

I go to Wagga for Obedience trials. We also get some people from the Wagga obedience come over to train with us, because our trainers are good. So the distance is very do-able. Just let me know. because i can easily pm you Gordon's e-mail

Great To know that you now ahve a new dog, though by now he's probably not that new, biut that's beside the point its great when a human and their owner (the dog) dont have any disagreements. BTW I live an hour out of wagga, and half an hour out of a little place called Ariah Park. Good luck with your yet-to-be-named friend!
A UTE WITHOUT A DOG IS LIKE A SHAG WITHOUT A SHEILA... IT'S KINDA LONELY
