    Default Newbie!

    Hi All,

I'm new here! My fiance and I are looking at getting a puppy. We have our eyes set on a Beagle but also like the King Charles Cavaliers and the Cavoodles!

Look forward to gaining lots of information about how to care for and train our puppy!

Beagles and Cavs have COMPLETELY different natures so you probably need to decide what you want from a dog lol

    Welcome

    Thanks for the welcome!

We want a companion dog. We want a small or medium breed that is loyal and has a nice tempremant (sp?). I guess why that is why BOTH breeds appeal to us...although in saying that we are leaning more towards the Beagle due to its short haired coat among other things!

Beagles are notoriously difficult to train and whilst affectionate, do not have the loyalty of some other breeds. They are ruled by their noses

Yes, that is one of things I have read about the breed. But lots of other things appeal to us!

If you could reccomend a small/medium sized dog what would you reccomend?

You don't sound like particularly experienced dog owners - just from your initial posts - sorry if I am wrong. A good medium breed to start with that has a short coat might be a lab x - if youre willing to look at puppies in shelters?

Border Collies are highly trainable and come in flat coats.

The AWL site seems to be down right now but they have lots of dogs.

However, if you're looking at cavvies you're probably more interested in smaller breeds

I like tibbies - tibetan spaniels - not really the dog for me, but have a great reputation

I also love love love cavvies BUT they have lots of health probs and you would need to go to a highly regarded breeder and even then you may not get a totally healthy dog.

Both those smaller breeds are long coated dogs though. What about a poodle?

My uncle just welcomed the cutest little beagle to his family. They are such beautiful dogs, but they are a hound so they have a great nose and if they get a scent good luck getting their attention and they can be quite stubborn so training may be a challenge, but worth it

And from one nebie to another, welcome
