    Default Di's Sister, De

Hi, I'm Di's sister, De. Maybe I don't belong here, cos I've never had a bought pedigreed dog. My dogs come from the pound. Di and I grew up with strays. I'll never forget the day that we were washing up and looked out the window when we were kids. There was a white dog walking across our back yard on it's hind legs! It turned out he had escaped from a circus. We had him for years... Fast forward...Les and I decided to get a dog when our children were 5 and 8. We figured they were old enough to not mishandle or torment it. We went to a dog show , and the kids fell in love with the beagles. We asked the owners if they were good with kids, and they promptly opened the cages and tossed our 2 in with them. It was a lovefest. I rang the pound the next day and said I wanted a dog with stipulations. It had to be young, but not a new puppy (we have 14 back stairs) Had to be female (friends I know were beside themselves with the males peeing on all the toys and climbing things in ths backyard) plus it had to be short haired( Qld climate).Lo and behold they had a beagle x something. 8months old ish.I took her to the vet, who did tests and said she was free of heartworm, but had a heart deformity

Unbeknowns to him, our first son had a heart deformity too and died after 3 lots of heart surgery. I think he was surprised when I told him that heart problems run in the family, and that we'd take her! He said she could die next day, or live a full life. That was 13 years ago! lol She's developed cancer in the last year, but is still bounding around like a puppy. We're so glad to have her.....
