    Default New from West Oz

Hi all from WA. Introducing Serena my English staff. She is my second staff after my bestest buddy died 5 years ago. in the meantime my wife and I had 3 kids and I felt it time to add a furry member of the family. I have a post in the general forum about her and we are mutally struggling to get used to each other. We have good days and bad days.
Anyway, you can read the post. Her she is:IMG_2259.jpg

    cheers

Hi 'Ados' and to the forum !

Thank you for the photo ! Do your kids like reading aloud from their books ? Maybe the kids could read to the pup so that she is able to get used to their voices.

Thank you Riley. My kids are too young to read. I've had them talk gently to her which hasn't made much of an impression so far. the 9 month old crawls near her (under my close supervision) and she continues to hide under her desk. I've tried to get the older child to give her some treats but no go there. First time I had a staffy that wasn't food centred.

Oh she is beautiful. I hope she doesn't take too long to come out of her shell, hopefully the inner staffy will unleash itself

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

    Welcome Ados

I hope you find a way to make it work.

My brother had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he was super vigilant with her and supervising and setting boundaries about what she could and couldn't do with his kids (dog was his first, and kids came later). Before he had kids he also took her to heaps of friends places with kids and taught her around them too. So his dog knew if the kids were being obnoxious - to walk away. And the kids learned - not to chase the dog if she didn't want to play with them. You have to set limits both ways.

She was a real worry with a big stick tho - like Laurel and Hardy with a ladder.

There are a lot of Staffies around that don't have such great temperaments - the registered (ANKC) breeders who breed Staffordshire Bull Terriers are mostly aiming for dogs that are great with people, children and other dogs - nobody wants a dog fight at a breed show.

The "back yard breeders" don't care so much about that. And some even choose dogs to put together because they are aggressive - they see that as a good thing. So it pays when you get one of these - that you meet the parent dogs and see how they are with children and other dogs before you agree to take one of their puppies. It's also why the more responsible rescues insist the dog they are trying to home - meets all the family members - including the cat and the budgie.

I'll go check out the other post now.
