everything you know about dogs and dominance is a load of crap. Ie the reason your dog is naughty - is because your dog is a dog and does doggy things and has no idea what you actually want him to do.

So first you interrupt or stop the bad behaviour - often simply holding the dog's collar is enough, then you must think - what do I want my dog to do instead? - and train that. And then you have to think - who left their ugg boots where the puppy could find them and have a nice big target pinned up on the wall about eye level that says "bang head here".

Cows hooves are menky, stinky but take ages for a dog to chew... but don't splinter like bones can.

I avoid any kind of nasty punishments with my dog - because with her - they just don't work. She's got no idea what I do want, all she knows is I'm angry with her. And she just rolls over (by herself) and goes all floppy and useless. Also most dogs will be gentle with you as you are with them - so if you're rough (and punishing) they are too and you really don't want to teach a dog that is going to be big and powerful - that being rough is acceptable.

So when my dog bites me in play - I push that bit of me gently and slowly towards the back of her throat until she tries to spit me out. I don't say anything (cos that just encourages her to bite more), I just push, hold a second after she starts trying to spit me out, and then let her spit me out. Trying to rip my hand away - just makes the bite worse - I become the tug toy... ouch. Saying ouch or squealing only works if you make the same kind of noise your puppy makes if you accidentally tread on its tail. And then most importantly - you have to stop playing for about 30 seconds - or at least until your dog notices and "apologises".

The guy that did the research that Cesar Milan bases his very flawed reasoning on - David Mech- says that it's all wrong because of the stress of the way the wolves were kept - they were not acting naturally at all. And what Cesar does - just gets everyone bitten, including him. A dog that submits - does it voluntarily - will voluntarily roll over into a position of vulnerability - forcing a dog to do that - is not making it submit, it either makes the dog terrified (fight or flight kicks in) or angry (bite me).

great tip! hes already trying to chew everything, including me.
iv been giving him sharp corrections (sharp voice and shake on his neck) when he does that. i want him to understand its not ok to put teeth on me or my daughter.
also been told its a dominance thing with pups? trying to put themself up the pecking order.

should i let it go because hes so young?

i redirect him to a toy if its something else i dont him to chew
Hyacinth has covered it very well. I'll just add that your pup biting you IMO has nothing to do with dominance, he's just playing and needing you to teach him what is right and wrong. I'd try to keep your corrections as gentle as possible(but obviously still significant enough so your dog understands what you're trying to say). I'd definately stop the shaking on his neck as a correction ... you own a fighting breed, that sort of thing is likely to stimulate his fighting instincts more than correct wrong behaviour IMO
