I have 6 dogs. When people with small children visit the dogs are put into their dog run. This in my opinion keeps the dogs safe.

I look back on my family photo's and cherish the ones with the dog in them. I loved growing up with a dog or two. I cried my heart out when they passed on.

I would of hated my parents if they had of taken the dog from me.

I know that having children and dogs together means extra work. Training is more crucial and exercising the dog is a must.

but it is the Australian dream to own a house, buy a dog and then have kids, if every home was to get rid of the dog when the kids arrived it would be a sad state of affairs indeed.

A dog is for life and people need to think that thru carefully.

I hope he finds a good home where he will be loved.

OP, there are a lot of good rescue sites where you can advertise your dog.

I'm not going to sit here and judge, condemn or rant and rave or even assume circumstances I know nothing about.
I believe that divorce is acceptable in certain circumstances. Amazing that so many humans out there have no problem making the decision to end a marraige or destroy a family, yet they go ape**** if someone makes the heartbreaking decision that their dog may be better off living with someone else. Food for thought?

Try your local paper, trading post, vet surgeries often know of ppl who may be suitable. Screen people as best you can, and if this is still your final decision and you have thought long and hard about it, then I pray you find him a wonderful loving home where he can live out his days.

I will offer you the same that I have offered in the past. If you would like some assistance in finding the right home, let me know. I have screened many potential owners and will have no problems telling you who will and will not fit your dog.

Hi Cleasanta

I don't always blame the dog for being people aggressive. I would believe 100% that the dog was in the wrong home with the wrong owners if it was allowed to show any aggression towards people.

I figure if through the actions (deliberate or accidental) of the owner, that the dog was allowed or encouraged to be people aggressive (does this mean barking at or biting only or trying to bite - cos that would matter too), ie if the owner was accustomed to rough-wrestling with the dog - and was scared of the dog doing that with the children...

Anyway all speculation and no facts here. My dog knows, I don't know how, just how rough she can be with any individual dog or human. So stuff that she might try on me or fit farm dogs like her, she never does with old dogs or children.

The owner has doubts about this dog, and maybe that means the dog is with the wrong owner. And I still think that is sad. The dog may be ok. I don't know where the blame (if any), belongs. I still think getting rid of a dog only because you've got small children is wrong and very sad for dog and children.

Really wouldnt be an easy choice to make thats for sure, not one that I would like to make.

All I know is the only time Decca is calm and not running around being an idiot is when he is around my 15 month old niece. It is extremely odd, but like is always said they are the nanny dog.

Yup, same with Angel, we don't have kids, but the only time she's calm is when there are kids here. Amazing.

I know that dogs live in the here and now and move into new homes with more ease than the previous owners would sometimes like.

I know this because I have re-homed young dogs that haven't made the grade to new homes. Though I do have a policy of "under a year old and not show quality a home will be found, past that year old and they are with me for life".

But potential dog owners need to look at where they will be in 5, 10, 12 years time and decide if they have chosen the right breed.

When children came into my life I gave up my chosen breed because I knew I wouldn't have the time needed to dedicate to their all round well being, but I waited until that last dog passed on.

I know my current breed can fit into my life for many years to come.

I post this for future dog owners.

I say give the guy a break, i dont think it would be a decision made easy, and in the end, its none of your business why he wants to get rid of the dog, circumstances change in every ones life and good on him making sure he finds a great home for him.

Guy's im sorry if i seem a bit upset at the OP... it's just that he's story hits close to home in so many ways..

A 7yr old Floyd shares the same story as the OP's boy..

Floyd was 7 yrs old & suddenly unwanted by he's previous owner because of same lousy excuse as the OP.. he's owners said that Floyd was to boisterous & to rugged around their young 3 & 5 yr old kids & a destructive dog who ate/ chewed everything & nothing .

Floyd is so bloody opposite to what the previous owners described him as, Floyd is the most well behaved, well mannered, gentle caring lovable boy around kids & adults alike & it's a real pleasure to have him as part of my family...

Floyd was one of the lucky ones who found himself in the care of SR & then i adopted him...

Maybe the OP can contact staffyrescue.org.au & see if SR are willing to take "Guiness" or even advertise him on their site a as private surrender etc.

Either way i just hope that Guiness is found a loving forever home.
