Default Trip to the pet store

So I went to the pet store to get a jacket for Banjo as she has been snuggling so close at night that she nearly pushes me out of bed. I had to take her in because I didn't know what size to get.

I only once before tried to take her into that store and had to just go straight out again because she got so overexcited I could barely control her.

No different today. But I had to persist. When we walked through the door there was a cat about a metre into the shop. The resident ridgeback was standing a bit further away. Banjo whined and jumped at the end of the short lead I had put her on. Took all my strength to keep hold of her. At first my LAT efforts were futile. Treats just dropped out of her mouth and I could not get her to focus on me. I did manage to get her to sit though thanks to the martingale collar.

But eventually I started to be able to get through to her and she became calmer and more manageable - though still very wide-eyed and excitable. She let the shop assistant put the coat on her without trying to head butt or even lick him (though she did head butt him earlier when he bent down to pat her). She nuzzled all the treats within reach, licked the smoked bones (wrapped in plastic fortunately) and when I asked "Do you like this toy" and squeaked it she ripped it off the hook, so I bought it for her. I also gave her a cow's hoof which she proudly carried to the counter herself.

It is silly how much I enjoyed our shopping trip together.

Lol, Oskar got a special birthday trip to the Pet superstore that we go to. He gets so excited as we turn into the parking lot, he knows where we are going lol. He got some treats today and the staff always love to see him, as he did his puppy preschool there.

Beloz, I'm laughing just imagining the head butt, and how gorgeous that Banjo carried out her cow hoof! Did u buy the jacket?

I now take Ruby to pet supply stores after dog training or a walk or quick tennis racquet & ball throw session to take the edge off her excitement. She loves those shops, the staff are always armed with treats for good dogs!!

Hope Oskar enjoyed his trip out

i remember the last time i went to the pet store and bloody molly snuck herself a treat. Neither I or the counter staff noticed it and it wasn't until we walked out the door and i saw the friggin thing in her mouth! I went back in & paid for it. How dumb are we that she can walk out with it hanging out her mouth and nobody noticed it? Lol

I've never taken my two to the pet store... it would be chaos if I did though

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

We love going and ours always manage to be given some treats. Well done for working through the problem Beloz. It is great to take the dogs everywhere

We also went today after Rally O training...because i have had my eye on a life jacket that matches the two we already have..We have a medium for Tessa and an X-large for Katy. Annabelle cannot fit those two, she needed a large.......Petstock locally sold me the other two, two years ago. They have had this one lying there getting all dusty for that time..Not many people do water rescue LOL.
So I asked if the owner was there, and asked for a discount..i buy quite a lot of stuff there and also help with puppy classes when their usual trainer is not there. They sold it to me for $50.00, $35.00 cheaper Whoo-hoo
I am tickled pink, we have matching life jackets

Here is Katy in hers, they are tough and well worth the money

The store I went to happened to have 50% off all coats today, so I got a bargain too.

I am always impressed at how the resident dog there ignores all the yummy treats at nose height. But she does usually follow me around because I always have treats in my pocket. She stayed well clear of me and crazy pup today though.

Only time I ever saw a dog with a life jacket was when we went whale watching and the skipper had his JRT on board. Who ran around the boat 'chasing' the dolphins non stop.

At our local Better Pets and Gardens shop the staff are very clever as they put all the pigs ears, rawhide bones, bone shaped bikkies and treats all around the counter where you pay, there's 2 shelves of them. While I'm paying, Ruby gets them into her mouth and if she slobbers or chews something I have to buy it

She got one of those vegetarian (i think) pigs ears, quite pink they are - then just spat it out. LOL
