It's not common for people to take their dog into the pet store in Canberra actually. And they definitely don't encourage it, though in most places they wouldn't kick you out either, I think.

We used to have this absolutely awesome drive through pet store close to where I lived. It was a huge shed built on one of the platforms of the old railway station and you just drove your car in! It was more for bulk food and stuff, but I just loved taking my dog there.

The other pet stores I know are quite cramped, so I do feel like taking a bull into a china shop when I take Banjo in.

Funny how it changes form town to town...We have several small towns nearby that actually encourage dogs, water bowls put out everywhere.

I have even taken the dogs into Bunning at both Wodonga and Albury.........mind you my dogs are very unexciting and quiet.......

I have also taken them into the Nurseries, I always ask first and so far it has been all positive

I used to take my previous dog Luna into the nursery too. They loved her there. Banjo would knock over pots in her excitement I reckon. Ah, the joys of an excitable dog! But fortunately Banjo doesn't mind being tied up outside as much as my old dog did. Surprisingly, she just lies down quietly and watches everyone pass without any fuss at all.

It's awesome, and they even have Whoops stations, in case your little mate has an accident (or if like Oskar, piss where ever he wants, because he can lol)
Lmao Oskar, yes they are all a bit upper class here (stuck up), except me of course.. and expensive like you wouldnt believe. I havent been to the one in Kawana and will go see it when im down that way, but like the big one in Maroochydore..they welcome dogs

Isnt that funny, at the Bunnings at noosa i was coming back from the beach and wanted to get something from Bunnings. As it was really hot, I couldnt leave Molly in the car even for 5 mins so put her lead on ...thinking they sell timber and plants they wont mind if she comes with me. At the door I asked the doorman if it was ok and he said NO DOGS, no exceptions, even though it was so hot!!!

Maybe even Bunnings Noosa is uppity!

I think it really depends on the staff..

And at Tewantin, our local newsagency ALWAYS for years had a bowl of water outside for dogs. It was great because you always knew on a walk through the shops you could stop for a drink there.

One or 2 other shop keepers at some point decided the bowl of water was attracting more dog owners to walk there dogs along the shops and ask that they remove it....they did! I REALLY hate living here, especially after going to brissie or maroochy where you see how normal people are

I wasn't allowed to take Molly into Bunnings in Browns Plains, Logan either. I wasn't even allowed to tie her up right outside the store, i had to go to the other end of the carpark and tie her underneath a tree. I was abit paranoid that somebody might steal her but their was a bunnings guy out there loading some stuff so i asked if he could watch her and that i would literally be 2-5mins. I came outside and he was sitting next to her giving her a good pat!

I usually don't take the dogs into stores (except pet stores cause i know they're guaranteed to get in). I would love to be able to take them into the markets but they have strict no dog rules as well. When we attended the million paws walk at Tamborine Mt, i was amazed at the amount of dogs they were letting into the cafes! So yesterday afternoon me & OH took the dogs for an outing and decided to try our luck at getting dinner at a cafe with the dogs... we went in and asked and they said yes! Even made them doggy fraps (hot milk in a teacup) and we were complimented on how well behaved Miss M & Rex were and i was stoked! So i will definitely be heading there more often so the pooches can come along... we haven't recieved the same hospitality in our area, i got told off for waiting outside the fish'n chips shop with the dogs. People are so friggin anal these days!

I forgot to mention i took Molly to the chandler markets in Brissy and they told me she could only come in if i carried her - she wasn't allowed to walk in the markets or some crap, but she was allowed to be carried in? Anyway, a 14kg dog gets heavy real fast so i carried her in, let her walk around the entire market & then carried her out the front entrance. What a stupid c*** of a rule!

Yes Kuri, but i am glad there not just anal here and other people have the same dramas. Its really great you found a cafe that lets you sit with the dogs....we used to have one here many years ago and really miss stopping for a coffee after a walk.

Lmao Kuri at the market story, really, I dont see what all the fuss is about...it really is silly! Think we all need to go live in Albury where the anal folks dont live

Yeah I agree, people are hell anal about dogs being around...I still can't believe that dogs aren't allowed in the pet store lol. Even though there is a no dogs rule at school, I have taken Oskar there a couple of times when I have gone to pick up the kids, and no one seems to really care. Wewould love to take Oskar to as many places as we can...We smuggled him into the christmas carols even though no dogs were allowed lol.

Lmao oskar, nice work. I really dont get it either. I guess the anal people whine louder than dog owners do. Its like anything, the loud minority of anal loud speakers seem to make it there lifes ambition to take away the simple pleasures of life from others.

Here on the Sunshine coast they have been trying for years to take away our 2 small sections of beaches where dogs are allowed off lead...I have no doubt they will win eventually, they always do.
