Hooch's first 3 months: (we only have him for 3 months)
Paid $400 to get him from the pound (which include microchip+vaccines+sterilisation)
$20/fortnight (not a month!) for pet insurance but before the 30 days waiting period paid $200 vet bills
Security door so he can go in and out $980
    Dining suite ruined - $1200
Toys - $250 at least! probably much more as Hooch = JAWS
    Kennel - $200
    Bed - $80
Leash harness collar etc - $100
    Doggie training - $120
Flea drops $60 per 3 months
I am positive there is so much more that I cant think of. Do you work? Will you be able to take him to the vet and afford whatever comes your way?

Ooh yeah - I left out the ring worm treatment...

Hint for saving money - do not buy any kind of dog bed or bedding until dog is about 2 years old. Frosty slept in half a moving box with old blankies, dead pillows, and old clothes - the sort that have holes in and you can't give to charity. There's still a jumper left from then - which looks like lacework now. Giant spotted moth...

My dogs are cheap then LOL.

Apart from food, vaxs, worming and fleaing, Barney has been to the vet twice, at about $150 a time (he is 7). Pippi has never been and she is almost 3 (except to be speyed).

That's so unfair! I've been to the vet 3 times in a week for all different reasons and back tomorrow as Meika has just started showing signs for an ear infection! Not a good run at the moment!

ALso, some dogs have specific health problems. Oskar being a staffy is prone to bad rashes, so he has to eat a food for sensitive skin, plus there is the shampoo to go along with that, and ointments, and vet bills.

To be fair though, Barney needs xrays (not urgently) and may have HD or Arthritis so he will start costing money.

And my previous dogs were a tad on the expensive side...Lennox cost me about $2000 in a few weeks and was then PTS (kind of long story so wont go into it) plus he cost me a coule thou over the years before that and he was 6 when he died. And Chevy, once she hit 8, she decided to be allergic to pretty much everything so she had to have special food, special tablets, special shampoo LOL.

I didnt count the $3k it cost me to ship Chev and Barney to Oz, but if I count that, we now call Barney our $3050 dog. We shipped him and Chev but Chev had to be PTS 3 weeks later so really we just shipped him for $3k...and he cost us $50 from the SPCA lol

Overall though, we have had not a bad run vet wise.

We are lucky with old cars too...the newest car weve owned is a 97 and we have never really had to spend any money on them to keep them going lol. Just lucky I guess...but that can all change.
