o, gosh, I'd NEVER leave my dogs with that brother. I left them with a trusted friend who Serenity loves. When I mentioned my brother who would go might let Serenity on the zip line and Sunny to roam is my other brother, he's the good brother. My mum doesn't want my friend at the house anymore and she doesn't want anyone to stay there, just in case. Only time some one goes there now is to feed the dogs and then to leave.

Oh, ok, lol, totally up to speed now...yeah it's a tough one. And I can understand your mum being cautious....sounds like she should kick your brother out, and let your girlfriend stay and look after Serenity.

My brother isn't living at home, hasn't for a few years but everyone think he still does. He's 28.. and is still a immature idiot (the one thats causing the raid). I will be telling my other brother to leave them in the kennel til I can work something out..

I'm nervous about how they are doing now. I hope when they get checked on tomorrow, they are behaving in the kennel.

Prayers that everything works out. Unless you are back in Australia within a week, I would certainly be organising a friend to collect them if no-one but familyis allowed at the house and it's empty at night and most of the day.
Is there any chance that your mum would allow an experienced pet-minder to visit them several times a day - if the minder didn't go into the house, just the back yard? Or is the kelpie too aggressive for that to work?

    Sadly, no, mum wouldn't.

They both stayed in the kennel and behaved so they are secure and safe. There shouldn't be a problem, as long as the dogs can't get out. I don't know if I should just leave them or do something. As long as they are secured in the kennel, I don't see why anything would happen to them.

Sometimes the RSPCA will help in emergencies. I know they boarded cats for a person in a mental health crisis - though they released the cats to someone equally incompetent...

RSPCA (in SA not sure about elsewhere) also does boarding... It's around $25 to $30 a day including their food - and no different if you supply your own (just consider it a donation to the other dogs they try to help.

It seems a horrible time for the dogs shut in the kennel - is there a run with the kennel or are they shut in a dark box?

We discussed a similar scenario on another thread and this justifies why people should not leave dogs in their yards if they go away. Something happens to the designated carer and they cannot get to the dogs who are then left alone.
Kennels are way safer, and whilst they cost money, isn't the peace of mind worth it? If you budget the costs into your holiday and put the money aside as you would for your airfares/hotel/meals/spending money - it won't hurt when you book them in.

I didn't know RSCPCA did that! I just don't know if I should bother now. After calming down and talking to people, we think it's less likely to happen and they are still safe at the moment. I'm glad I know that information now.

Ya, it's a pretty small one. I feel horrible because they are in there together and there isn't much room because of the dog house in there but it's not like they'll be in there for another week. One more day and I'll be home, Friday morning at 9am. When I get back, they'll both be going on a lovely long hike!

Nev Allen; I will be working things differently now, this was a surprise thing and now i know, you need to be prepared for that type of stuff. I guess I just thought, I wanted Serenity to feel safer and in a kennel, she'd be a mess. I will go the kennel route though next time.

Do you live with your mum? Have I got that right? (I am assuming because she wont let your friend at the house you must live with her).

If so, why isnt she watching the dogs for you?

This is why, I am very fussy about where my dogs go.....well actually, thi is pretty much why we dont go on holiday. I worry too much and even a kennel I worry about.

Yes, I live with my mum, I sadly can't afford to live on my own with two dogs. My friend was at the house, she only wanted her to leave in case we got raided. So, thats why my friend isn't actually staying at the house, before this happened, she was there day and night.

I prefer my dogs at home then at a kennel but now I can see why it's so stressful ether way and i don't know what I'll do next time I travel.
