LOL as soon as Hooch is on the bed he just drops unconscious. Like hypnotised, knows bed is for sleeping.. even if he is totally hyper.
He did fall off my bed once when I had a nana nap during the day.. but because his body is a little bit beagly-sausagey half of his body was on the floor while the rest was on the bed (high bed too). If it didnt freak me out it would have been very funny. Took him 30 seconds to understand what had happened.

Hooch only gets on the bed if invited. I actually took the idea from someone here - I dont remember who said it? I just remember reading it early on and thought - I should do that. He knows and he never gets on the bed until I tell him to. He would sit there staring intensely at me wagging his tail until I say Hooch up!

Oskar sleeps in the bed. My boyfriend doesn't like to disturb the dog, and moves around him...if he is on my side of the bed, I just tell him to piss off so i can have some doona. Then he will move to the bottom of the bed and usually lay on someones feet, but i toss a bit, and if Oskar gets too bothered , he will move off the bed for a bit, just for me to wake up in the morning to find myself and my boyfriend tinking on the edge of the mattress while the dog is most comfy in the centre..But i must admit, Luke has been away working for a few days, so I secretly love that despite all the room in the bed, Oskar chooses to sleep on my feet lol. The kids would love for him to be in their room, but Oskar gets sick of cuddles from them after a while....he likes to breathe!

I've just started getting my two OUT of my bed. OH is getting sick of coming home 2am in the morning trying to fight for a spot between Me and two sleep stubborn dogs. They are now in the garage (internal, so they still have access to the house) with their two brand spanking new beds. They still walk me to bed every night, but after i shut my door i watch them through my bedroom sliding door, make their way to the garage. I think it's harder for me, i've had to resort to a hot water bottle

Ruby sleeps on our bed, I said it wouldn't happen, but it has ... our two small dogs used to sleep on our bed, Harley snored like a freight train, so after he was 10 years old, they were put into their own comfy bed, Harley stayed in it as our bed was too high for him to jump on, but Duke was always on our bed in the morning.

Ruby sleeps on top of the covers near our feet, but as she's getting longer and heavier it's impossible to move her once she's in a deep sleep, or get the doona from under her if she rolls over onto it - at least she doesn't snore My hubby won't move for her but I tend to sleep in the letter "z" position, clinging on to the sheets so I don't get pushed off... LOL!

There are two things that I am very good at teaching a dog: Stay away from my food and don't hog my spot in the bed. I don't even know exactly how I achieve it but they just sense that I REALLY mean it and never challenge me. Both my dogs respond(ed) to "Move".

I actually love it when I go to the loo in the evening and come back to bed to find Banjo leaning against my pillow keeping my spot warm. And all I have to do is snap my fingers once and she will immediately jump up and move elsewhere.

I wish I would be as good at getting the message across with all training, but they are the only two things I really care about.

ETA: If only I could teach the cats to respect my bed space. I got woken up this morning by a kitten running over my face at full speed!

OH's that get home at 2am (and I don't care if its shift work), get to sleep in some other bed till morning...

I never cope very well with being woken up in the middle of the night.

Beloz - your kitten would be getting flying lessons from me for that, and I doubt I'd wake up enough to know I'd done it.

However - evil hound likes to begin grooming around 5:30am... but I've learned to sleep through that.

My guys usually sleep in the washhouse...but I like them in bed with me,OH doesnt. But lately they have been sleeping with us more and more. Especially if we go to bed early and at the same time. If OH goes to bed before me, like tonight, then they have to sleep in their own bed.

When they sleep with us, I lay pretty much on my back, Pippi sleeps between my legs right up by my crotch, and barney lies at the end of the bed, on my side. They NEVER encroach on the OHs side, but when he is away, they both sleep on his side, Barney near the end, Pippi up next to my face.

In regards to sleeping at other times, they do that where they please. Barney is currently on one of the armchairs, and Pippi is on some cushions on the couch next to me. Usually wherever I am, she is snuggled into my side.

LOL it is great to see how other households deal with pests!! The first sleeping attempt with Dean (my son) was awful.. 2 mins after bed time Dean came out "mummy GET HIM OUT OF MY BED - HE SNORES!!!!!"
Now Hooch knows if he wants to stay he has to stick to the towel at the end of the bed.

That really made me lol. You must be a very good sleeper to be able to sleep like that!

I'm constantly making the kittens roll off me because they like to sleep on my legs and I toss and turn all night.
