I dont have a problem with the names, to me it is just a shortened description of the breeds, though i didnt guess that one, as ive never heard of it, and I dont have a problem with x breeds as long they are cared for and bred responsibly as they deserve, and i dont think ANYONE is naive enough to think they are a purebred, but i sure do have a problem with the price??? I cant imagine any dog, except for the rarer breeds would warrant that price tag unless they come with 24 carot gold collars and i didnt read that in the add...

Well see thats what I thought. Border collie workingdog with a poodle, not sure what the implications of that are as far as potential temperment. I dont think say shitzu's (long hair) and poodles are a good mix because often you get a long haired dog, with the tight curls of a poodle which is totaly unmanageable and requires constant clipping and maintaince. If ya gunna breed crossbreeds you have to be smart and responsible about it, exactly like pure breeders should.
Sometimes though not enough thought goes into to mix and thats sad for the pups.

The names are really coming from 'breeders' who cater to 'nobs' who have paid an extraordinary amount of money for their mutts ! They need to justify and keep up with appearances and the 'Jones' in their life so that they feel important and feel they haven't made a bad decision and have something - maybe - others may want!

I don't really have anything against crossing breeds, but I must say that most of those oodles I've seen look kinda vanilla to me. Their coat always seems to look a bit like a grown-out perm. Very cute pups, but the adult dogs I've seen just don't appeal to me much at all. And I do quite like poodles. Not my favourites in terms of looks either, but I find them prettier than most of the crosses I've met. Though what I like most about them is how lightweight they are. And smart too of course.

If I ever were to start a line of 'designer breeds' I'd probably be crossing everything with a wolfhound because I so adore that shaggy look. So would you then get wolfcollies, labhounds (that sounds really wrong!) or maybe wolfdors, grolfhounds,...

It is just getting a bit crazy this crossing everything with poodles. One can only assume it is because there is such a big demand for non-shedding dogs and lots of people who don't like purebred poodles. I understand if it is because you have allergies (but yes I know that crossing breeds doesn't guarantee coat qualities, so maybe then you should compromise and get a purebred) but if it is just because you don't like hair on the carpet, maybe you should just get a toy dog and be done with it.

I hear people saying this all the time "people assume its a purebred"...not all of the general public is that stupid. Most people know its a x bred.

Different when the ad states "purebred oodle" I guess...

And finally, I dont mind the price.

How can you put a maximum price on a family member? You pay what you want for the dog you want....ya know, purebreds have some pretty outrageous prices too if you want to look at it that way.

Yes yes, I know the arguments, "they are health tested" etc etc ad nauseum. And sometimes this happens with crosses. Ya know how purebred bashing gets a bit boring, so does expensive crossbreed bashing. If thats what people want to pay, why shouldnt they?
