Thumbs down They didn't like my dogs

I've just gotten back from Victoria today after visiting family/meeting a heap for the first time. I can't believe how many people cringed or had the look of "oh those kind of dogs" when I told them that Harley and Bella were AmStaffy. My Pop actually asked me if they would attack him when he came to visit us. Only one member of my family didn't look repulsed by them.

Makes me realise there is a long way to go to change public perception of Bull breeds and any other dog in the same position. On the other hand though, I called the kennel today to see if I could pick them up this afternoon instead of the morning and the ladies there were raving about them, she said they were just so beautiful and cuddly and that they can come back any time they want... my faith in humanity is restored a little

Thats sad Jadie. Dont let it faze you too much though.

When i told my oldies i was getting a B.M mum googled it straight away and then rang me all freaked out that a B.M would be too protective and wouldnt like them visiting with thier little lap muts. I just laughed and told her to stop been so stupid.

While it does annoy me some have a impression of Mojo before they even meet him it also works in my favour a lot aswell.

Inlaw visits have dropped dramatically. YAY !!
My oldies dont let thier little shihtzu's run amok at my joint incase they anoy him too much and they dissaper with one bite. Woohoo !!
And people dont park next to me when he's got his boof head hanging out the window !!

Those that have got to know him love him, the rest can get stuffed !!! It's thier loss.

Well they are the ones missing out ...sad though. Good to hear they were liked at the kennel
Like I always say, I am glad mine are black and fluffy.....I have to opposite, I get the super friendly reaction. Which in Annabelle's early days could be worrisome, but now we are all chilled and happy

We don't get too many visits, and I am really happy..my mum thinks Oskar is a mutt, but she isn't a dog person, or an animal person in general.

Wow, that must have been super unpleasant and sad for you Jadie. I find myself feeling quite hurt and offended when people just make assumptions that my own dogs are going to be mean, nasty horrible things. When my cousin stayed with me last year she arrived feeling very uncomfortable with V&F's presence. It was so awesome later on to hear of her speak of them so warmly to her parents (they are life long 'cat people').

Best we can do is make our dogs ambassadors for dogs... And appreciate the real 'dog people' of the world. I'd like to snuggle with Harley and Bella!!!

I won't take my dog to Victoria.

Their laws - allow for immediate confiscation of any dog in Victoria not registered there. There's no exception for tourist dogs. They wouldn't even have to say yours look like the APBT standard.

The dog club people I met there were completely unaware of the consequences of the recent law changes. They think it doesn't apply to them. And so far, given council dog rangers are generally under resourced... it hasn't.

First they came for the APBT, then the SBT, then the AMStaff, the BT, then the Rotties, then the GSDs, then the Mastiff (all of them), then the ACD, etc... 95 banned breeds later, the Italian govt decided it was a stupid law and repealed it. But the Vic parliament is a bit thick.

It's sad that people have pre-conceived ideas of big dogs but hopefully once your Pop comes to visit he'll realise how beautiful Harley and Bella are ...

Yeah I would never take them there either. After that reaction just from photos/mentioning their breed i would hate to see what people would be like if I walked them down the street :/

Not only big dogs - Poor Rex get's the dirty looks just walking down the road, just cause he looks... scary & he's smaller than an SBT.

That suck's Jadie, once they come up to meet Harley & Bella i'm sure their perception will change, Bella is such a darling

Sean, your post reminds me of back in day when we had APBT's - we use to leave our car unlock, windows down with our two sitting in the back, no one dared to go near our car. Aah, those were the day's :sigh
