HaHaHa Matt, you had me fooled I thought you were the "Dad".

I must agree with Kristy Maree about rescue dogs, the dogs she adopted are just so
happy that they are safe and have a loving home they would just do anything
to please her. The breeds do not matter at all.
I feel it is a gratitude thing that a puppy you have raised yourself
(who has never known fear or hunger or neglect) could never fully appreciate.

They look so different and their personalities are also so different to what they seem like (and are described) on the internet! There is nothing more rewarding than adopting a dog and watching them grow and become more comfortable with different situations (And I think they definitely apprectiate the second chance you've given them!!!)
My local RSPCA shelter actually only has one greyhound at the moment, but I'll see if we can visit when they get more dogs or if we can travel to another shelter. I mainly look at the Pet Rescue website since they have more dogs and there are lots of dogs that I would have/would love to visit but unfortunately that's not in my control. As I mentioned, the others don't like kelpies or ACDs which make up the vast majority of rescue dogs. It's fine that they don't really like those breeds (we all have breeds we don't particularly like) but I have had to let opportunities of adopting a really nice dog pass.

I understand what you mean about how rewarding it is to adopt a dog. I would love to.

Yeah, most people think I'm an 'old' man. It must be my mature and charming writing style.

I'll show my family what you and Kristy wrote. You never know - it might persuade them.

I'm always scared to look to see the latest name invalid update...

My dog - that I got from AWL at 10 weeks old - was never on their website. I actually went out there to look at a different dog, that was already adopted when I got there, and was a boy dog not a girl dog like it said on their web page. Go figure.

So the websites lag a bit. Or just don't ever see the best available dogs or puppies.

Ie you need to get out there, or call up the rescue orgs who have dogs that are close to what you want and talk to them about what you're looking for and how to go about it. Same as actually meeting breeders and their dogs and letting them get a feel for what you're like and what kind of dog you want...

Victoria has a GAP - greyhound adoption program where they retrain slow greyhounds into something more suitable for a family pet.
    Greyhounds to Adopt

I think most available greyhounds would be listed with them. If there's one at RSCPA - something went wrong and the owner was able or not willing to look after it any more and not able to call GAP either.

For a minute there I was all excited to see what kind of dog he had brought home!

    Yes me too!

Not yet, guys. Sorry to disappoint. I only got back last week, though.

I got so close to adopting a kelpie pup from the AWDR (filled in the form and was about to have a house check), but I just missed out and she had just been adopted (this was a few days ago). I was pretty shattered.
Now I'm trawling all of the rescues for a dog that my family and I all like (which is very rare).
Before I left, the plan was to buy a vizsla from a breeder, but now there aren't really any suitable breeders.
I guess I will end up with whatever I find first: a rescue we all like, or a good vizsla breeder.

Hopefully you get one soon Glad you're looking at rescue sites! I saw the AWDR has just received about 21 chocolate kelpie puppies with the most beautiful blue eyes and they will be available for adoption soon.

Our local RSPCA has a kelpie x vizsla pup at the moment, it's a shame you're not closer! Animal Details

Wow, I need one of those kelpies.
I just don't want to miss out like last time. I filled out the form the day she was listed and I got ang email back straiht away saying the foster carer would ring me. Nothing happened, so I waited for a few days and then I got an email saying she had already been adopted.

A kelpie x vizsla, hey? Sounds good.
I swear, Queensland always has the best rescues. That's probably not entirely a good thing, but Vic's got nothing in comparison.
