Thread: Help choosing dog

    Thanks for the input, everyone.

I'll add border collies to the list. We should be able to agree on one soon. Hopefully.

The only thing I've recently learned about with Borders is to be choosy with breeders. Some show lines have a reputation for being highly strung, don't know how deserved that is but handy to have at the back of your mind when after a family dog.

Also be wary of the current fashions for colours. There are some gorgeous colours in Borders, but as usualy there are always folks willing to churn them out only for colour and nothing else. As such heAth issues are becoming more and more apparent. Be particularly wary of any pup from a breeding of red & white to merle.

I am considering this breeder: MI LAN GIMBI
I should be able to tell if the dogs are highly strung by visiting, right?

We'd just get black or chocolate and white, so I guess I don't really have to worry about that.

Yes Newfie, SMALL hobby breeders, they sound amazing, they breed for health and temperment only, do not kennel there dogs and there dogs are a part of their family.

Now if your looking for a HEALTHY, HAPPY dog, who's parents are raised in a loving caring environment with happy family orientated lives which is what every breeding dog deserves..that is what you look for.
    Nice find Newfsie.....

Both your link Matt and Newfise's one look like good starting points. You can often get a feel for a breeder if you give them a ring too. The mentions of health testing and being loved pets as well as succeeding at various activities are reassurring.

Thanks for the link. I've contacted a few, so hopefully I get some replies soon.

    MI LAN GIM BI
Also breed GSP's and bull terriers as well as BC's, no mention they do not live in kennels and have puppies available all year round , and there list of dogs is as endless as the puppies they have for sale.
    AHHHHH AHHH Puppy farm,,,kerchew!
Funny the directions to their "farm" are the same as a lady who used to (not sure if she still does) advertise puppies on "petlink" the number one site for puppy farms and dodgy breeders, although it could just be someone in the same street..

Sorry Matt - Just my opinion, not wishing to sway you at all, just couldnt help putting in my 2c worth on my opinion of puppy farms.

Here is a typical pointer - I love this video, pointers are such a laugh.
I have caught Snoopy doing this more than once.
