    Default Defending the cat

We were in the kitchen a couple of hours ago when I suddenly heard a cat scream. It was a yowl like they make when you accidentally step on their tail. Or when they get into a cat fight. I quickly figured out that it came from under the house and immediately deducted that the cat must be trapped under there by the ugly feline bully from down the road.

So I just ran outside and shouted at Banjo "Go get Kahlua!". She immediately ran under the house (the only access is little door on the side of the house) and within seconds the bully cat came running out and slipped under the gate. I must admit that I was annoyed enough about our little cat being bullied that I opened the gate and let Banjo chase the other cat down the road. There are heaps of trees around our place, so I knew there was no risk of her actually catching the cat.

I don't like her chasing cats at all. Apart from anything else, they're someone's pet and I normally don't like her scaring them. But I had to make sure this one wouldn't come back in a hurry. And I did feel quite proud of Banjo for sticking up for her feline friend.

My dogs don't do cat very well at all, because we have feral cats and they attack all of us and scare us quite lot in the barn.......

Our dogs will chase and when the cat stops, our hero dogs run the other way, terrified. So your Banjo is a hero in their eyes

Oh but Banjo will stop too if the cat stops running and turns to face her! Even though she has never even felt a cat's claw across her nose, I think.

Beloz, Like banjo, i dont like bully cats either, if fact..i dont like any cats! Newfie, its quite a funny picture to imagine, huge Newfies chasing a cat, then becoming scared when it looks at them....., that would be a crackup to watch.

I have taught my guys to chase off bush turkeys in the yard as they bring ticks. The first time they chased one off (didnt catch it of course), the turkey won as when he flapped his wings to fly, it frightened the little sooky La La's.
With encouragement, they will chase them off, but always keep a respectful distance as the bush turkeys are bigger than them

    Frosty will chase cats.

If cat stops and turns around - she just barks her head off at it, out of claw range (about 2m), but she doesn't turn and run.

I used to have neighbours cats and strays having fights outside my bedroom window, but Frosty put an end to that. My neighbour's cats on either side, did not last a year after I got my dog. She never touched them but I think she gave them heart attacks or something.

And then there is my brother's fat cat. Supposedly king cat, boss of all dogs - erm. Boss of my brother's staffy. Well they have an understanding. Staffy is not allowed to hurt cat. This fierce cat was going to tear my dog to shreds.

Wrong. Cat got sick of my evil hound barking at her and ran up the nearest tree. WTF?

I had to update because I was reminded of this thread on our walk to school this morning. We were in the park waiting for Banjo to catch up with us, when I noticed that she had spotted something. Took me a while to realise that it was a cat - I had seen him in the park a couple of days ago too. Banjo was circling him - not aggressively, just inquisitive but very cautious. Finally we see the cat rear himself up with arched back and then he charged at Banjo and she ran away, chased by the cat, until the cat stopped and Banjo slowly walked off, looking over her shoulder to make sure he wasn't following her. So I shouted "Cats rule, dogs drool!" at her, which cracked up my daughter. Banjo looked a bit embarrassed.

Cats chasing dogs really does always make me laugh.
