I do not understand how the parents can be found so neglegent that they will take their other children away?? God they all fell asleep, I know its happened to me before specially when I had a Newborn baby!

I remember I was doing the dishes one minute and the next I woke up on the kitchen floor with a pillow half under my head and a T-towel over my shoulder! (My 2 year old son thought he'd help his mummy out!) I had a newborn in a bouncer asleep and a 2 year old roaming the house on his own! No, we didnt have a dog at the time but I can tell you thatt wouldnt have made a spec of difference.

All I can think of is this poor Family! Losing a child this way and then getting their other child snatched away from them just to prove someone is to blame for this! Any parent would surely be able to feel for this family and understand that this was just a tragic accident!

Would you sleep through your child screaming as it was mauled to death by a dog? I think not.
Sorry but as parents you have a duty of care to make sure your children are not in a possibly harmful situation. Leaving a young baby/child with a dog that you have only just rescued (or any dog IMO) is negligence.
I think there is also possible things going on in the background that we are not aware of (ie: there may have been prior issues).

    And another one...How very tragic!

Behaviourists suggest that parents should never leave a new baby with any dog. They say dogs see the new baby as a stranger and feel the need to protect their family from this intruder. R.I.P Little one.

Apologies Bernie, yes. But infanticide is the death of an infant caused by the mother. In Victoria, here I think you are, it is here: Crimes Act 1958 - SECT 6 Infanticide

Different to an accidental/incidental dog attack death or other death where fault elements may be present.

Homicide investigation does not always lead to a criminal charge of murder or similar. The coroner in this instance has referred the matter for homicide investigation, being that there may be human fault elements involved. Whether or not that ends in criminal charges or conviction is anther matter.

Media reports on incidents like this contain very limited information so it will not necessarily be clear to the general public why things like removal of children take place. Suffice to say that there is a very big picture here, and we are given a tiny glimpse.
