Default Dog rolling in something while out walking

I have been taking my dogs out for free running in the bush and one of my dogs sniff something and rolls in it. I go and check what she has rolled in and can't see anything there. It can be a log, a patch of grass or in the middle of the track. What is going on here?

She is scenting....Either wanting to smell like what she has sniffed (even logs smell) or she want it to smell like her.........She is a dog.

BUT..... One day she will find something awful to roll in and you will have a stinky dog.....been there several time myself LOL.....

Im not sure how lucky it is but it is sometimes handy I guess - I dont really know, I dont know what anything smells like so I dont know if it is lucky or if I am missing out.
