I'm in a sort of weird situation where i babysit my mothers dogs - partly because of her ridiculously long working hours & partly because my dog had anxiety issues with being alone. Now i'm pretty much stuffed where Rexy (hers) & Molly (mine) cannot be seperated, so in getting rid of the anxiety she had for me, i've transferred it to him! I've watched her personality & behavior change dramatically. A dog who was once a social butterfly at the dog park, she will no longer play with other dogs, her obedience when he is around goes out the window, if he decides to play up - she will too, if we go anywhere without him she is just miserable - she has changed into a completely different dog and it sucks! More or less he is going to be my dog if there comes a time where i cannot be near my mother anymore & i love him to bits, but i really miss my old gentler Molly & after them i will be sticking to the one dog.

It probably sounds selfish but i want a dog who's focus is on me & pleasing me & not the other dog.

that first part is so true.

No I know exactly what you mean and for us that has probably been the other issue. Our first dog focuses on us - if we're there he wants to be with us but will play with Zoe in our absence. The second dog however has bonded very closely to Sammy. Now she still likes us and enjoys spending time with us, but I feel that given a choice, she would probably go with Sammy over us. We exercise them separately - Sammy doesn't even notice that Zoe isn't there, but Zoe does not enjoy her walks nearly as much without Sammy. I think this affects how we bond with her as well. But that's my fault. She spends more time with Sammy than what she does with us because of how much I work - she is very much Sammy's dog.

It depends on how much you give your dogs ( training)........we have four. the first dog is actually the least focused on us. The last dog, who has to deal with three others is very focused on us and us alone. My Third girl of our pack is the same. It is all about the people. Only when we let them all out and play will we see their pack order and play. As soon as we are part of it, it is mostly all about us. And My Annabelle..well she ignores everything and everyone bar me....we do lots of one on one training and group training. And i suppose we keep constant training in the house, a sit here, a wait a drop or whatever.
