    Default Ute Cover 4 Dogs

ok so we need to stick some sort of shade thing on our Nissan Navara.
The husband had a canopy and it is a hassle for us to put on n put off.
We seen this uste up the road from us made inquiry and they are $500.
The husband will not pay $500 for it (whoop whoop)

Anyway so we are looking for any other ideas.
Someone told us weld up a light weight frame
and put a sheet of insulated roofing on top leave
    sides open..
The other half has to have it looking nice and easy 2 take off
n put back on so that's out..

The husband reckons if he can pick up an old boat canopy we could
cut it all down 2 size get it covered with water proof canvas and it
could just fold up when not in use..
Sounds great but been looking for this frame for like over a year..
Any one got an pictures or ideas..
Here's a picture of the nissan we seen down the road with the canopy
thing on the back that's $500.. Mind you it's all stainless steel..
    Fabulous idea but too pricey..

Looks very nice.....When we have our dogs on our one tonner they are in a totally enclosed mesh crate with canvas on top.........We made it ourselves, because hubby is awesome with the welder. But we hardly use it. I prefer mine to travel in the trailer or in the car, seats down, harnessed in attached to the weight points at the back of the Jeep. I just feel happier about that system, because they are so heavy and easily injured.

When we take our dogs out they have a harness on and they are chained
to the back with a thick stainless chain..They can lay down but can't hang
    over the sides at all..
We don't take them out if it's a sunny day due to the sun on them.
If we do it's late afternoon.. It's a shame as they love going for a drive.
I use to take them in the back of my 4X4 seats down harness ect ...
But, one shake of the head and the car is covered in drool, so we can't take them
    inside the cars..

Mine still do not seem to do as well in our ute, because they scrabble too much (even harnessed in). So I have sookie dogs

    hehe

And our kids refuse to get in the car when the dogs are in also
due to the drooling..I'll often take my girl in the front seat of my car
and carry a towel to mop up every 5 mins..
She is such a sweet sweet dog and well behaved..

Wow looks nice - I am in the market of 4x4 ute - I am selling my precious toy and getting a ute "for our new member" - I am looking for a ute with canopy so I can just replace the back glass to a sliding one for Aircon, but after seeing that geez its soo much win at the moment.

Yes I think this cover is fabulous but expensive..We had a canopy but they are a pain in the butt to put on
take off all the time, as we buy stuff and carry on the ute...
And we still had 2 tie dogs in , in the canopy otherwise they will slip n slide and could break a hip or
    whatever.....
I think this pic of the cover is the way to go....

Today cracked 40'C - I doubt a shade cover would keep a dog cool enough.

The boat canopies are supposed to be folded up when towing the boat, because theyr'e not made for travelling at speed - boats on the water don't go as fast as cars on land towing them. I've seen a few of the boat canopies completely shredded at 80km/h when the owners forgot or were too slack to fold them up and tie them down properly. I don't think a dog underneath that would enjoy the experience.

New rules in SA about loads on utes - require that the load be secure even if there is an accident - so it's hard to imagine anything that's quick to set up and remove would meet that criteria. I know one bloke who has a normal hard top for his ute tray and he puts the dogs under that - but they would have died today.

Proper dog transport trailers these days have insulated roofs and sides and little whirley gig vent systems, and some have a/c.

Otherwise I guess I would have the dog on the back seat and if I had to leave the car, I'd put a crate under a tree and the dog in that, if I couldn't take it with. In town - I find car parks that have ceilings. If it's uncomfortable there, I take the dog home and leave her inside a/c.

something like the rig on the back of the ute on this page.
