    Default Mornington Peninsula DOG FIGHTS??

So ive heard from a few of my friends (and the radio) that there are dog fights being held somewhere in the mornington peninsula..i may be over reacting a tad, but i cant help but think about it being linked to the recent rise in dog-napping. Maybe im just crazy?

i have thought much the same lately. Why are the bull breeds being stolen, is it only the bull breeds? or is that just what is being reported?

I dont know, its not a good era for certain breeds right now

I don't think your crazy. They steal them to use as bait dogs. I am paranoid as hell about any strange person or car around my house at the moment with so many dogs apparently being stolen around my area

Wish there was something I could do to help catch the mongrels.

Only yesterday i heard on the radio that a staffy had been found dead with bite wounds to its face and legs, found on a vacant block with a bag over its head. Absolutely disgusting and while the police officer being interviewed didn't 100% confirm it he did say that the injuries were consistent with a dog that had been used in a fighting ring. He also said the owner seemed genuinely distressed that their dog had died in this manner. Keep your dogs safe is all i can say.

ETA : it was found in Tootgarook

There was a 5-6 month old stafford puppy stolen and then dumped back on his owners lawn with the same injuries in QLD somewhere. The owner and breeder are trying to get the media onto it, but they don't seem all to interested.

its so distressing, my dad reckons its somehow linked to the underworld (what isnt!!) so maybe the media HAVE to stay away from the topic...OR...they dont want to blame people for what happens to dogs, so they can continue to rag out on dogs, with d***head owners, who attack other dogs!!
But yes i agree, keep em locked up..we have a MASSIVE lock on our gate, pretty sure even the most powerful bolt cutters wont break through, but i still worry.
Bernie: i highly doubt its isolated to bull breeds, but there definatley has been a rise in thefts (even in our association), and our breed of dog are fairly placid, doubt they'd know how to fight properly (except for maybe a few individuals who have fallen into the wrong hands)

The problem is that they won't actually use them to fight, they use them to train on by taping up the dogs muzzle so it can't attack back and then give the dog they are training free run
