    Default Dog Fur rubbed away

    Hi all

We have a 2yo Lab\poodle cross that has a chocolate wool coat, about 12 months ago my wife bought this a nylon type bone (chew toy), he loved crrying it around and sitting down and chew the hell out of it.

While laying down he always had the bone in between his wrist like are and chew it, within a few dat we noticed that the bone seem to rub his fur away and left like a dent in his fur as if someone shaved it with a number 1 or something.

Since then he has had 2 full shaves but the fur in that are has not grown at all

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Well, I'll start by saying I'm no nylon or dog hair expert :P

Does your dog still play with this toy? Is there hair there or is it just bare skin? If there is no injury (scabs or red skin), I wouldn't stress too much. If he's chewing it a lot, he'd be using his paws to keep the toy in place, hence all the rubbing movement.

Obviously if it is something you are concerned about you could speak to your groomer, as they would have more knowledge about dog hair

Hopefully a groomer or vet will comment on this thread.

Hi and thank you for your response

We took the toy off him as soon as we noticed the fur problem(a few days after him getting it so about 12 months ago), the hair is still there at maybe 1/4 inch in length in that area where the rest is 1.5 inch at the moment.

I would recommend going to the Vet just to check. In my view if the skin underneath the hair is not damaged there is nothing to worry about.

I personally wouldnt worry about it.

Our dog has knock knees, kinda, and when she was younger the rubbing of her knees caused the fur to rub basically completely off one of her legs. Now that she is older the hair has grown back.

    Hi guys

    Thank you for the replies

My wife keeps telling me not too worry but after 12 months and it has not grown even a couple of mill, he looks strange with a full coat this great big furry bear with chunks taken out of his fur
